Manufacturers/Suppliers: What's in my atomizer?

here is close up pic of one i just took.. the bridge has been removed so as the heater coil is visible.. basically the liquid is drawn into the little ceramic pot from the wet wire wool around the pot via some holes as one sucks.. the "whatever it is " stuff soaks some up from the pot and the wire coil heats it up.. all quit simple and quite rudimentary..

the wires go down thru the pot and connect up with the battery via the suck switch..

Thanks Trog. Great pic. I have a marginal atomizer at home, I might try and extract the core from it. Besides the electrical connection, it should still be functional as a unit, though I can't speak for the aerodynamics of the shell and it's impact on performance. If I can get it out in-tact and functional, I may be able to ...substitute the core material and do some testing (though I have NO idea what I would start with).

In the pic it almost looks like the coil wires are insulated. Is that the case, or are they just coated with..."gunk"? At this scale, it's difficult to tell. (Damn! Wished I had a workspace for something this size...)

most of whats in the pic is gunk.. the thing in the middle just look like a sort piece of normal wick material wrapped in the heater wire.. anything on the wire to start with would soon burn off..

its a neat simple idea.. so long as people dont expect it to last for ever.. which is the problem.. people do..

I know nothing lasts forever, well,...except for big mortgage companies. Wait, that don't sound right.

Anyway, I like to take working stuff, and make it better (or cooler). So as time and hardware allows, I will play. I'm also starting to think of a way to drip my pen-styles from a squeezable pocket of some sort and changing the mouth-piece to a round end and not the flat kind. I may never get there, but it IS fun to play.

Yes Naz, it seems that keeping everything nice and moist is the best advice you can give regarding the current technology. I for one am certainly gonna be a great deal more attentive to this in future.

starts to degrade at 500 c..

Dull cherry red 700 to 750 C..

its possible the stuff with the fancy name might be the stuff they all use.. its possibly not.. we dont know..

I haven't heard of anyone taking a dead Janty atomiser apart to compare. If they die for the same reasons as the others - the wick degrading then maybe they do all use that stuff.

The questions I'm interested in is do the wicks in Janty atomisers degrade and if so what are the implications of breathing fumes from degrading aromatic polyamide?

Well, after alot of researching it seems that the most common heat-resistant aromatic polyamide fibers are Nommex and Kevlar. Here is some toxicological info on what is produced when they burn. What do you guys think?

i think the size of the "wick" and the very slow (if any) burn factor means we aint gonna suffer much (if any) harm from it..

but thats only what i "think"..
