Good taste to TERRIBLE taste?
I have had a DSE901 for about 2 months now, and bought the starter kit, so i only had one atomizer. I bought 5 more spare atomizers and had 2 in rotation. The atomizers worked great, with great vapor production, aside from the usual "breaking in" process where the atomizers gave that terrible crud taste, after a few puffs, it started to bring out the full flavor of my e-liquids.
Now, its been about two weeks later, and both atomizers give me this terrible taste, where i cannot distinguish the flavor anymore, and i get this gross taste that makes me want to gauge. I heard the filters' filler portion can go bad sometimes after washing it out and reusing them, so i used new filters and it was slightly better, but i still get that gross flavor. My atomizers are not dying, not losing vapor production, but why does it taste like crap??

From what you list, sounds like you probably don't clean out your attys - which is a choice as I'm sure you'll read all over the ECF place
Since cleaning the pollyfill helped a bit I would hazard a guess that the atty might be similarly "dirty"

Rip all the polyfill out of all you carts and throw it away!
Do a search here on the forum for - Lypton Pyramid Teabags or PTB and follow the video.
Learn how to dry burn.
Quit using the same atty for 2 flavors.
Save the Ta Ta's

what powersource are you using? regular batterys or a USB passthru?
here are a few things i'd try
1. replace old polyfil inside the cart with new, or do the tea bag thing.
2. if the taste is bad enough... you can try cleaning the atty with a pure grain or vodka soak, maybe even hydrogen peroxide (there are threads and youtube videos)
3. try dripping straight on the atty... i only fill carts on my 901 to keep me from running an atty dry while dripping!!

yeah i am familiar with the dry burn, just seems like its too dirty at this point. i am using fresh filters out of the box now, but i will look into the teabag thing. does the vodka soak really work? and for how long should i do it for? I am using regular batteries, 1 manual 1 automatic.

I do the vodka soak all the time and I have a few tips.
1st - there is always (I have heard) the possibility that you could destroy the atty. Make sure you have a spare atty before you try this. Also honestly, it will take your atty out of commission for a few days. (dry time)
I have done the vodka soak alot and never killed an atty. I think some people THINK they killed their atty but they really didnt, they arent patient enough.
2nd - Soak it in a non flavored vodka. I use Smirnoff.
Soak it for 3 hours tops. Soak it in a cup, swirl it around in the cup. Blow thru it, both ways, swirl again, etc. Rinse with water.
Stand it on end, let it dry for a few hours, flip it to the other end, let it dry more.
Forget about it till the next day (this is why you need a spare atty).
The next day, do some dry burns, and try some drags (a usb passthru is best to save ur battery). If you dont feel heat, set it on end again. Wait another day. These things really take time to dry.
On the next day, you should get heat, and even see the atty glow, but you wont get any vapor if you put a cart in. This means the wick is still wet. Give it some good dry burns, and drags, and set it on end again for another day.
By the third day, burn, drag, burn, drag, until you can put a cart on and get a hit. It takes some time. If you dont after 10 mins or so, set it on end again for another day.
By the fourth day you WILL get a drag. Again, dry burn, drag, (the drags are to get airflow past things to let the heat dry the wick), burn drag.
Periodically put a cart on and try to get a hit.
I have had this process go 2 days, and as much as 4.
I know this sounds like a pain, but if it saves you an atty, its worth it, especially since they may be in high demand and low supply someday.
Hope this helps.

ps - the dry burn process will make a bad taste for the first few hits once you get a hit. But after you are done you will enjoy a clean taste, and a monster hit that will remind you of when you first bought the atty.

that sounds good, i just put two attys in a cup of vodka, and have a spare to hold me over. oh yeah, since its a new atty, i taste a different type of BAD taste, how long does it take to get rid of this taste? would dry burning the new atty help?

UPDATE** I did the vodka soak, and fyi, i got it done in about 8 hours, 3 hours soaking, and once i blew out all the water on both sides of the atomizer afterwards, i used a napkin and repeated the process with the napkin on the other end, then made sure i soaked up all the liquid from the wick, then let it sit for 5 hours. It can be done in one day! i taste the full flavor of the liquid now! Now i need to perfect the teabag mod because mine is leaking...

Well since you asked this yesterday, you probably already vaped thru the primer taste you spoke of. In the future, you can simply blow out a new atty to get rid of the primer, no need to ever dry burn a new atty. Just make sure you dry it off and put a few drops on the atty after blowing it out. Also, I have found that simply blowing out the atty is usually all that is needed if I get a burnt taste. If that doesn't work, then I will resort to the alcohol soak.
And as far as the alcohol soak goes. It works well to get rid of nasty juice, and leftover juice flavors left in the atty. You shouldn't have to let it dry overnight if the alcohol content is high enough, since alcohol evaporates very quickly. I occasionally soak atty's in Everclear (151 proof), and let them dry for only about 1 hour or so. Then three drops on the atty and let it soak in for a minute or 2, and it should vape like a champ.
