The guck that will come off, is water soluable. I run them under tap water for a couple minutes before working on them. For anything else, please go to one of the dozens of threads with thousands of opinions on it :-) (personally, I think it's a waste of time.... when the coil's gunked, burn off what you can with dry burns, when it's no longer usable, replace it or rewind it)

What is the chemical composition of the "metal wick"?

That link from "Storz & Bickel America, Inc." (not "nickel") says, "The stainless steel liquid pad was developed for the vaporization of liquids."

That product indicates "stainless steel" but is this the same material used by the Chinese manufacturers?

Also, does the PV atty design allow for metal vapor deposition? The mechanism to me would be the dissolution of the metal into the liquid while adsorbed to the metal wick. If the answer is, "yes," then what metal is being deposited in the respiratory tract?

The mesh type stuff is nickel foam, as far as I know.

The core, what the coil is wrapped around, is some kind of ceramic, or fiberglass.

As for inhaling - I have a plasma cutter, arc, and a tig welder. I'm pretty sure I inhale more metal vapor in an hour playing with those, than an entire lifetime of a few ions of nickel dissolved in the nic-juice... Lead/Zinc/Aluminum dust I stay away from, but the rest I'm not so worried about it LOL. So I'm probably the wrong guy to ask about that <wink>
