I really appreciate the extensive work that had to have gone into this. But if you did this to be a benefit to the community, wouldn't the best way to handle it would be to share the information you've found? Having one more supplier selling refurbished atomizers isn't going to be nearly as useful as having a community that can if need be rebuild their own parts. Selling refurb. atomizers to those who can't do the work themselves is a great idea, but why deny build information to those who can?

I can see your point, but at the same time I certainly see where having the first corner on this market would be a benefit in these economic times. I sure can't fault it for him.

Besides it won't be very long before someone else figures it out (I've figured out how to rebuild my cartomizers now - they are much larger and easier to work with IMHO) and then there will be more suppliers and howto's, etc.

I say let him have his go while he can. I would if I could, but there's no way I could do mass production or 'mass repairs' either. I just don't have the setup.

    Take care,
    - Hap

Certainly. His work is his and his alone to do with as he pleases. And I'm really not trying to rock the boat. But, the way I see it...this community is acting less like a community and more like a marketplace everyday. If you have a skill, profiting from it isn't wrong in the slightest. But, if you come to the forum to learn and benefit from the knowledge of others, its only right to give back to the other members. Whether you're regurgitating common knowledge in the newbies forum again and again or you've stumbled a solid innovation that could really help people and advance the technology. I would imagine that however he ended up refurbishing atomizers(which is a really great bit of knowledge to have) he did it at least in part with information found in this very forum.

I do see your point here. Late this week (like Friday and over the weekend) I hope to start working on a how-to for rebuilding cartomizers so there will be something to go on. Also I believe there is another thread I was reading earlier that has much more detail about types of wire people are using for elements, guage, solder types, etc.

Oh yeah - Howdy neighbor btw

    Take care,

I understand your point of view, but I think it is somewhat limited, you are not considering several other factors when it comes to the forum members making mods here. You would be surprised (maybe in shock), to find out how many here were laid off and have been struggling for many months now, without being able to find a new job.
Others like myself, have quit smoking and now are addicted to modding instead, and trust me, it can be really expensive, so in some cases, selling some mods is a way to be able to continue doing it.
I am not going to go through names, but most of the modders selling stuff have "donated" their knowledge repeatedly to the forum and have always helped when someone needs it.

When you start modding, (if you do), you will understand much better what I am trying to explain here.

At least, I think, the info should be shared with those who helped him along the way.
That kind of leaves me out, but I got about 45 attys hoarded away so I guess I can wait until someone else figures it out.
Even if all Modders knew how, it's not going to effect his profit margin because there is a lot of people out there that would prefer someone do it for them.
Hopefully, rebuilding them doesn't become illegal.

Not that it would stop me if I knew how.

Well that is the schtick I think people are missing here... he is rebuilding them for experimentation purposes - I don't believe his end product for replication is going to be rebuilds but basically a 'home-brew' atty on whatever connector.

Also - even sharing the info with other modders lets say. It really sucks to think this way, but there are those that might have the means to jump to production faster than him, and as Warp was saying - if he can get and edge in these times - I certainly see the benefit and cannot fault him for it at all.

In the end it will all come out in the wash because there will be others who figure it out in some fashion, or he will release some information after he has his biz started.

I can tell you from experience that I shared my designs of a music instrument with the public at all times. Openly discussed how to build and construct them, helped people with their designs - and I basically changed the way a particular wind instrument was made by a number of manufacturers. However, I did not reap the benefits of that design because I shared it with the public. It was an idealistic though at the time - I am hurting because of it now when I look back at that decision. It stinks, but really there are few who are going to simply 'contribute' to you in thanks for your work, and a lot of people who will take your work and run with it. Regardless of where you get your information from - it is still you who had the ingenuity and took the time and effort to build upon that, make a new design function, and function properly, reliably, and to the point that it changes things for people.

    Take care,
    - Hap

I think everyone needs to consider what they would do if it was them. If you had a great idea that might make you a little money and you was out of work would you give it away? I do think everyone will eventually be able to benefit from his acomplishment. We just have to wait. I am happy for him and I hope he does manage to profit from his work.
