How would one spot weld without spending $$$$

I have found that I can use my PH(-) chem for the hot tub to condition the ends of the nichrome. I was then able to solder using silver solder.

It's a chemical you buy to reduce the PH of your hot tub....

exactly.
It is essentially an acid. I couldn't get the wire to solder at all! worse thing I have ever tried to solder, so I tried to find some acid at the house and tried that. I did get that thing to solder to some copper wire-with silver solder.

Thanks jacko. I'm no electronics expert, but I do have a fair understanding of how an atomizer works, and the general workings of an ecig (flow of fluid through the atty, effect of differing voltages to an atty, etc...). After spending about an hour chatting with the rep and explaining the current nichrome heating coil, the temps that have been taken of the active coils, the purpose of the heater, and giving him measurements of an M401 and a BE112 (801) atomizer, he seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem with 3.7V that we are using, and agreed that the biggest issue was the cost difference. He, of course, was quick to point out other benefits of his devices over the nichrome coil.
If someone can provide me with a link, I would love to educate myself why these wouldn't work. As far as I can see, the cost is the only factor, and they may even be plug and play replacements. Now I'm thinking I may get a few and experiment after all. Nothing like someone telling me I can't do something without backing it up with facts to get me to try....
I seem to remember that several folks told Carlos he would never be able to build an 801 atty from scratch, but that happened.
Thanks for the motivation, RoadKill. I have 20 samples on the way now from a similar manufacturer in China. I'll post a thread if I have any luck.

Reason: toned my unprovoked defensiveness down a bit...

I hate it how my projects lead to new projects.
Quit smoking > Start vaping > Mod ecigs > Research heating elements and glassworking.
And now I'm tempted to take it one step further.
