Greencig Cartomizer Autopsy

So I got a few used Greencig Cartomizers (Thanks RsL) to take apart and see whats going on inside these things.

I pulled the connector out and was expecting the entire insides to come sliding out ,but they didn't. What came out was the connector, and connected to that by 2 feed wires was a plastic coil pot with what looks like a bundle of very fine hair like fibers. The fibers are about 1-1/2" long, folded in half and the coil is wrapped around the fibers holding the folded ends together. this bundle of fibers sticks out of the coil pot like a pony tail...

The cartridge material is packed inside a capsule, similar to 100 series and the 400 series caplets, but its larger than a 901 cartridge, unlike the KR808 that has no capsule and the wicking material is wrapped directly around the coil.

The fiber material that the coil is wrapped around looks so much like human hair its freaky. I pulled a few fibers out of the bunch and put a lighter to them, the fibers burned exactly as human hair would burn. There was no smell at all and the fiber seemed to turn into a fine ash. I checked the fiber rope that a KR808 is wrapped around and put a lighter to that material and nothing happened, didn't burn or melt, just turned black from the direct flame. I am sure if you vaped this cart dry it would taste nasty.

I am not sure which one of the cartomizers ( greencig or KR808) can hold more juice. It seems the way the greencig cart is designed it can be vaped to the very last drop.

Very interesting indeed, I would not have expected it to be that much different than the KR808D-1 carts which I thought were very well designed in their own right but these make those look like our modern tools make the caveman tools look. No wonder they are that much higher priced but obviously some serious engineering went into these. Gives you a whole new respect for the GreenCig compared to the primitive carts like the 510 or m401 and I hate to say it but even the KR808 carts seems primitive when compared to the GreenCig cart. Now I am more anxious than ever for it to arrive! Thanks for this in-depth look at the guts of a GreenCig cart.

Thanks for posting the pictures. The design of the greencig cart is different and much better than the Loongtotem/Smokes 51 carts.

Those carts had a more simply and cheeper design to them. The cartridge material looks the same as the greencig but the coil ran throught the center of that material and was
covered by some type of cloth. There was no plastic coil pot or hair like fibers around the coil like the greencig cart. The problem with the Loongtotem/Smokes 51 carts was that you don't know when the cloth material around the coil will burn. Once that cloth burns the cart is no good because the burnt taste will not go away.


Last January I took apart some of those carts because I would get a burnt taste on many of the carts after 20 puffs even though there was still a lot of juice in the cart.
But one cart initally lasted 150 puffs and was refilled 4 times before I got the burnt taste. When I took it apart it was no diiferent than the other carts. Go figure.

Anyway its good to know about the better design that the greencig carts has.

The hair-like material seems like *fiberglass* to me.

I don't know if it's fiberglass or not, I would think not just because at the temps these reach I would think it would melt it and we would taste the fumes or smell them at the very least. Fiberglass melts quite easily without a lot of heat.

Ummmm... what?

Fiberglass is, well... glass fibers in a resin. The glass itself has a super high melting point obviously (1500+ degrees C). Structural fiberglass composites typically have a self ignition temperature of about 400 degrees C.... and that's more a function of the binder/resin than the glass.

If these wicks really are made out of "fiberglass", I doubt there is much in the way of a resin/binder being used.
