This seems more like a possibility than a 36 gage wire that you would only use 1 inch of... I think I could make it work with 2.5 inches of the ribbon. With this said I am ordering 30ft of this and will let you all know how it works out.

This could be our answer to a longer lasting, cheap replacement for our current atomizer.
I gave up on this after someone posted something I could understand. I am really glad you are giving it a go though, please let us know how it fares, it seems more contact area would help with vapor production and cleaning.

Off the top of my head here is an idea you can try. I am thinking shape would be key here. I am imagining a spiraled troth.. if that makes sense.

"U" shaped ribbon troth in a spiral configuration so that an even amount of liquid is touched by the entire ribbon... sorry if that is hard to imagine.

I think I get your idea and I will definately try that in my experimental phase. A drawing of your idea would be a great help too. I have been thinking of folds that would be similar to the current atomizer. I will also try to making a bowl that fluid can be dripped in. I have also invisioned a coil design that might work well. I will be looking into the reason the current atomizer has all the space under it (which I think is for airflow and cooling) but want to know for sure. This stuff is cheap so if it fails all I have is a few bucks and my time in it.

If anyone has any ideas please feel free to submit and I will try to implement.

That's great I hope it works out. Actually now that I think about it making what I was describing would be very difficult on a small scale. Also I see Kanthal has Iron in it... which I am wondering if it will oxidize (rust). Also since it has Iron in it I am wondering what the malleability of the material is.

malleability = capacity to be manipulated

    Wamphunter,

I have been peeking in @ the German forums... you might be on to something big here. here is an excerpt from the home made atomizer thread on their forum. It seems as if Kanthal produces insane amounts of vapor. I suggest you sign up over there and use Google translate and read through... much information to be had.

Translated from German to english via Google translator. HERE is the link to the thread... you must be registered and signed in to see it. HIGHLY SUGGESTED

It is a complete evaporator (the benefits of the old VR4) includes, is slightly smaller and has screw contacts for a super-fast Heizdrahtwechsel. The whole fits into a standard 16/14 mm aluminum pipe in the one to two air holes must be drilled. Plug-in contact as with VR4. I made a matching tank-containers.

Kanthal wire was used as 0.16 mm, which was twice taken, and Twisted. The resistance is about 3.3 ohms and generates an insanity vapor. The fibers are of course the new slightly larger fibers from Bulli.

I will make in the coming days (weeks?) Some further developments and improve the base yet. Then I will also set a precise instructions and component links. I hope for a stimulating discussion.

The following pictures will show a preview and show the prototype:

The screws clamp down the leads making the coil replaceable.

The body is made of molded resin.

BTW: jxmiller, did you ask the owner of the pic whether you may publish it here?

Not at all. I did say where it came from and it seems I missed placing in the link in my post (ohh well its not hard to find). I read the entire thread and being that it is intended as "Open Source" I don't have a problem posting pictures over here. If they have a problem with that then by all means I will remove it.

I might have a different definition of "Open Source" than some people I suppose.

Hmmm looks like a power plug jack for a cell phone, I wonder how the "Resin" holds up and if it releases any toxins since "Resin" will burn. I would like to see it after 10 hours of vaping and how badly it melted or burned.

BTW I agree with you on your Idea of open source, if it is posted in a public forum then you should expect that others will use it. I do.

    Hallo

In other words, I posted that in their forum. It seems it is being discussed as far as it being posted here. I could give a rats .... honestly. I am trying to help people out 100%, not piss people off.

    Translation:

    Hello

I just started looking around here at the forums. It seems you all have great ideas, and I am amazed at some of the things that are being done here for modifications. I posted a picture from this thread on an American forum, I hope you don't mind. I did not take all of the pictures, just one. I was trying to help someone by getting them to read your forum because of the great information here. I hope I did not offend by posting a picture in another forum.

In any case I believe I will be frequenting this forum because of the great ideas and ingenuity here.

I apologize for the bad German, I am using Google translator to speak your language

I've seen, you solved the "problem" yourself at the german forum.

The inventor (ichbines - means "it's me") had no thermal caused issues with the resin. Remember that the socket of the VR4 (Greentech G220?) is plastics...

    EDIT:
My words... vapors worldwide have to stick (and work) together, otherwise the pharma- and tobaccoindustrie won't stop to cheat us...
