Could have been worse, it could have destroyed your CPUs USB port like some others have.
The only good PT IMO is Pure Smokers'. All the others seem like cheap Chinese garbage.

Cut the whole battery thing out and splice the line back together. Give that a try, you have nothing to lose.
Just make sure you do it correctly so it doesn't short and damage your computer power supply.
Depending on your USB, it will up the power to 5volts, but your amps will be limited to what the USB puts out prob 500mA. That will lower the wattage that the atty is running at and take away the burnt flavor you are talking about.
The 510 atty has a lower resitance than the 901/801. This allows more amps to flow, using more wattage and giving you more heat. This is the reason for the burnt flavor and the low batt life. Run at 500mA (from the USB no batt) this becomes the limiting factor, not the resitance of the atty, so therefor the 510 should vape like the 901/801.

interesting, I used a ipod charger to connect the passthru I no longer connect it to my computer for fear that i might fry it. I donot have the tools to split and re solder wires unfortunately so Im stuck with two crappy batterys untill my vk arrives.

Just bare the wires, separate them, and twist them together. Cover individually with electrical tape, or in a pinch masking tape or just about any tape. Make you you do not leave plugged in unattended.
****** DISCLAIMER ******** This is not good electrical practice to do it this way. Crimp or solder and heatshink is correct. This was intended as a post of what to do in a bind..

I still get that overheating atty with burnt taste with the portable batteries that last 20mins, so I dunno whats up with that.
