    Default Big Battery Questions

    Alright big battery modders, when it comes to buying batteries, there are so many options that I知 confused.

    Right now I am only using the 14500 batteries but I see so many other options out there like 18650 with a million different mAh ratings.

    Where do I start, which ones work well and which do not? I知 so confused I don稚 know where to start!

    Can anyone with some experience lead me in the right direction?

    This is a good place to start...
    Welcome to Battery University

    18650 has the same voltage as your 14500. Basically, by going to 18650, you are gaining battery life at the expense of size and weight.

    The numerical title is a rough estimate of the size.

    14500 = 14mm Dia x 500mm long

    18650 = 18mm Dia x 650mm long

    This is approximate though, especially when dealing with protected batteries. 18650s are often over 19mm in dia.

    As far as which brand to buy, I'm told that AW is the best. I've used a few different brands and they all seem to work fine.

    If you want to DIY go to the battery modders forum. Tons of data and advice there. If you want to buy a big battery mod there are several choices out there. You will also get a lot of advice about that too if you go to the suppliers forums. I have the Pure Smokers Protege which uses the 14500 battery. I have also have the Pure Smokers Prodigy which will run at 3.7 volts using a 18650, 5 volts using 2 RCR123A batteries, and also 6.0 volts using the RCR123A batteries without the internal resister.

    There are many different commercial battery mods out there.
