After a certain number of puffs the light will start flashing and the circuit in the battery will turn the atomizer on full power to burn off anything that may be stuck to the coil. It only last 5 seconds or so. You can hear it sizzling too. This may promote early atomizer failure. When I see mine start to do it I unscrew the battery until it ends. I don't know if they all do it.

Thanks for the info and the tip! I will watch for this. I have heard about it but have not had it happen yet.

i thought it ran it for more like 20 secs, not 5, but maybe that depends on the model. it will burn the liquid, cart and atomizer. it supposedly leaves a burned taste for a long time, and even burns out the atomizers. i have been lucky and have gotten the battery off every time within a few seconds. the m-401 (evo and pilot) do not have cleaning cycles. not sure what other units if any besides that.i have mostly been using the pilot, so havent had to deal with a cleaning in a while...

It could be 20 but I let mine go without unscrewing it when I first got it and I could hear the sizzling for about 5-10 seconds at the most then it stopped blinking and didn't get any burned taste and the atomizer was fine after. I unscrew within a couple seconds too when it starts now.
And now that I think about it the light just stays on constant instead of flashing.

Bad News Is What Happens Queen

Queen--that dreaded battery cycle only spells bad news for the atomizer as it heats it so high that the mesh no longer will wick after it hits and it is only a matter of time before the atomizer fails--that is why the USB passthough is key for units that have batteries with a cleaning cycle.---Sun

I always imagined it being like a little drive-through car wash in there.
