I have a question. Would my 401 battery charger be compatible (after a slight modification) and or supply enough power to charge the protected 14500?

Hard to say without the specs Steve---the 14500 uses 12V-400mA input and 4.2V-450mA output. Best to just buy one ---they are short money------Sun

Yeah the specs sorry. 4.2v at 100ma. I guess the problem would be the low ma. I'm sure I'll get an actual charger for the 14500. It's not a money issue. Just that I can fit the charger from my 401 inside my nicostick and was thinking about taking off the usb cable end and adding a small female mini. Hence it could of been a rechargeable nicostick.

So I'm wondering what sort of bribery I can use to get my hubby to make one of these for me or if I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try to do it myself . Maybe the thought of not having to buy a couple of batteries a month will be enough to get him to make a couple.

Do you have a link to or pics of this? Sounds interesting ...

I assume you mean the circuit board from the charger fits in the NicoBox.

Right, the circuit board will just barely fit. I decided not to put it in the 2 nicoboxes I just finished up. Maybe next time. I'm sure it will charge the 3.7v 14500 but not sure how long it would take with the low ma output. Guess it one of those wait 2 weeks for my batteries to get here from china then run my battery down and time it. I'll see if it will still fit in the ones i done up and if so i'll post a pic. It won't exactly be pretty you kind of have to put the board at and angle so it will fit and i won't have it soldererd in just show how it would fit. But god bless epoxy maybe the next one will have it. Damn i guess i'll go pick up another battery box and switch to build it and test it. If nothing else i'll only be out 10 bucks or so

14500 are rated at around 900mAh, so 100mAh will charge them in about 10 to 12 hours, so it will be an overnight charger. Slow charging Lithiums is ok.
You could have a problem if the charger has a time cut-off. What chip is that charger based on? Maybe you could change it for a faster charge too, some can be modified by changing just a resistor

I'm going to start a new thread to discuss what I have brought up. Hopefully to not add clutter to this current thread. That and it's not exactly to discuss the nico but to try to mod it.
