Question 901 auto battery to manual

i'm turning my broken 901 batteries into manual batts with a tactile switch... my problem is with the circuit being broken how can i charge it?

i saw someone say tape the button down to charge it, however that doesn't sound like something i want to do every night.

any ideas as far as circuitry goes? i'm not so hot at this stuff, but i'm learning quick!

    thanks in advance

You could use a diode running in parallel with the switch circuit.

The diode idea is: allowing charge current in while only the switch lets battery current out. A reasonable idea but would drop the voltage perhaps 0.2v The diode would be connected so that with the atty attached, the diode is 'off'; it is connected 'in reverse' with the positive end facing the connector, not the positive of the battery. If you connect it the wrong way around, the atty will be on all the time once attached, so careful and reverse if wrong first time. The negative end of a diode is marked with a line around the body.

Just tape down the button is the simplest, and best, thing to do. Why worry, there's no atty attached and it's equivalent to the automatic battery being charged.

But make sure you have no shorts in your wiring and that the tiny circuit board is still attached and working before you leave the charging unattended (that tiny board has the battery's protection circuitry).

If the board got broken, there is a board here: Protection circuit Module (PCB) for 3.6V(3.7V) Li-ion (18650/18500) cell Battery
that should work but it might be too big

In which case, start again, taking care to keep the board.

Even with the board there is a danger of shorting out the battery before the board. That's what's nice about bigger mods such as the NicoStick - the protection board is right inside the battery

If you buy the right one
