    Default Mod of a mod??

This are 2 of my mods of a mod.

I have purchased several commercial mods and in general they turned out to be pretty reliable and/or well designed.

This is NOT a review, but i need to explain the reasons why they don't work.

In this case, i had 2 pass-throughs sitting in a box for a while and finally decided to fix their flaws.
One was only $10 and i was expecting it would not last very long (and it didn't), but the other one was $30 and it was a pre-order which got me to wait 30+ days after paying for it, just to find out it had the exact same design flaw. At first view, it seemed to be real sturdy in design since it has a thick USB cable and a hard rubber end that grabs the cable so it does not brake.

To make the story short, it turned out that the thick cable is what caused the problem.
The cable is so stiff (impossible to tell from a small pic), that you can almost hang your clothes to dry on it.
What this causes is as you move the pass-through on your hand while vaping, the cable forces the switch casing to gyrate inside and at times forcing the switch into the notch that holds it in place in such way that it keeps the button pressed down without you noticing and obviously frying your atomizer.

In my opinion, all pass-throughs have basically the same problem...the cable.

I always wondered why use attached cables on anything, but I guess it is about generating more profits. (it breaks, you need a new one)

Here is my simple solution to the cable nightmare:
    USE A DETACHABLE CABLE.

I added an RCA jack, a manual switch and an RCA connector to my USB cable.

Now when the cable fails, I can either repair it or just make another one with spare parts.

    Thank you Cisco,

Still trying to figure out a good use for it, not easy though.

Maybe I will just make an extension for my printer, just hope it doesn't pull it off the table.

Warp, you just put an RCA connector on anything
But it is a hell of a good idea
I finally did a GOOD battery connector today, used the metal one cut down, your picture in another thread helped a lot. I still had to use a wire for the center connection, but it looks and works great. Thanks for the idea and the help

    My pleasure Burnie,

yes i guess I am now the RCA psycho.

I still have to replace the battery connector on the cheapo pass-through with another RCA jack so i can plug and play any atty to it.

I will have to wait until I get home to view your mod. The firewall at work is blocking your links. What can I say, it's their network.

OK warp, I have a question. If I mod a nicostick should I remove the battery or leave it in? Can a PC USB port supply enough current to run an atty?

Most I have seen pictures of are a direct connection to the USB port which supplies 5v. I have not made one "yet" but I think the USB will supply enough to run an atty with no problem, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No battery in the nicostick, the PC USB will supply what is needed.
I don't even know what would happen if you leave the battery in there, sounds kinda dangerous to do so and no need to do it.

There are several threads posted on passthroughs built on a nicostick, just need to find them. (not an easy task here)

OK thanks. I'm almost ready to complete the mod. Later I will add the charging voltage regulator. I want to add a mini-usb connector so I can disconnect the cable. Or I'll take a look at using your RCA components. I want to maintain a modular system.
