(maybe just haven't dug into the forums enough yet?) For example, what batteries do you use, and whats the best way to recharge them? What type of atty and what method you used to attach it (adapter)?

Best thing to do is read a llot of the forums. There's a wealth of information for some people that really have it figured out. As for the batteries, that's largely a personal choice. If your a light vaper and like the box type battery like the Jaunty Stick then the Nicostick with it's 14500 battery would be a good choice. If your a heavy vaper than a flashlight mod with a 18650 battery would be great. If you want higher voltage, then a pair of cr123 in 3 volt would give you 6 folts for a stronger vape. Be aware that you can also get them in 3.7 volt also. You don't want to run 2 3.7v together. That would produce too high a voltage and burn your atty unless you use a regulator.

Personally, I prefer 3.7v. I'm satisfied with the vape of a regular battery but prefer the longer life of a mod. Some people want the heavy vape of a full 6 volts while others believe that it burns too much juice and has too much throat hit. Many think that the sweet spot is around 5v. 5v requires a regulator though which adds complexity to the build. The advantage to using a regulator if you choose a variable one is that you can tune it to your preference. Again, it's a personal choice and only you can decide.

Usually, you remove the batteries to recharge them in a regular charger. As for what atty to use, again, personal choice. I like my 801 because of the larger cartridge and more throat hit. It don't make any since to me to have a big battery with a small cart. Others don't mind refilling so prefer a 901 for more vapor and flavor or some other atty. Again, there is no right or wrong answer. It's all a personal choice.

Mounting the atty is again a personal choice. Some prefer to recycle the connector from a old battery, while others prefer making their own. More work, but more satisfying, and possibly more durable.

A note on batteries. ALWAYS get a protected battery. Non protected batteries have a tendancy to explode if not preperly and carefully charged and used. Also, the the number is the size in mm. For example, an 18650 is 18 mm wide and 65.0 mm long. An 17335 is 17 m wide and 33.5 mm long. A CR123 is also about 17x34.5mm and nearly the same as a 17335. A cr2 is 1635x27mm and can usually be swapped with a 15270. Protected batteries are usually about 1 or 2 mm longer than stated because of the protection circuitry in the batteries.

Best I can say is to read the forums, decide what your needs and desires are and choose what's best for you. Everyone likes something different. Once you build your first, you'll most likely decide you want to try another one. Like many of us, you'll end up with a few of them by the time your done.

My one thing about all of the battery mods is that they all use manual switches. I'm working on building an auto switch. I've got most of it worked out on paper and will begin design testing soon. Problem is I'm on disability and have no income right now so money for the project is a problem. The design though shouldn't cost very much, but as many can tell you, it often takes several revisions to get a good finished product. Hopefully, I'll have a first model out in a month or so. Hey Robert- I bought some cheap LED Flash lights from Harbor Freight- How do you get out the board with the LEDs on it out of the flashlight?

EDIT: I destroyed the first flash light. I tried to get the board with the leds off and the screw driver I was pounding with a hammer punched a hole right through the board. I ruined one- Im going to get another right now. Luckily Harbor Freight is giving them away for free- no purchase necessary. If anyone wants the coupon let me know and you too can get a free LED flash light and tell me how to get the LED board out of it with out destroying it.

Robert- Your detonator mod is by far one of the coolest mod IMO. I am trying my hardest to build one but I can't even dis-assemble the damn flash light (not starting off so well).

I do have a couple of other questions for you Robert-
First off I am a complete newb to modding- the amount of experience I have is I built a NicoStick- which is about as basic as it gets.

1. How does the regulator work- meaning is it needed for 3.7v along with 5v (I know its necessary for 5v)- but lets say I want to build a 6v and 3.7v dentonator- do I still need a regulator for the build? Is it possible to build a 6v/3.7v detonator with out a voltage regulator?

2. How do you achieve 3.7v with for your detonator mods? In your setup with 5v and 3.7 do you need a separate regulator for each voltage?

3. I only have rcr123a, 18650, 10440 bats (I'm about to order some 14500 tonight) is it possible to use rcr123a bats for this mod if I could get them to fit? I just thought of this- The flash light that I got has 3 AAA bats in one of those tri-holders- I was thinking what if I replaced the AAA bats with 3 10440 and use a regulator to keep the voltage down?
