Yep. Unless you are super careful and take short drags and keep the atty real wet they are gonna pop quickly.
Not sure how you got the 6.71v though..what type of bats are you using? Standard alkaline bats are 1.5v each which would only give 6v nominal. With the drop under load I'd expect about 5.5v tops (I haven't tested alkaline so this is a guess)

Just retested, I have 6.21 v from 4 new radioshack alkaline batteries in a rad shk 4 battery holder with power switch. Wired to a female rca fitting, found a plastic male rca and cut the leads down (left neg longer), bent center over to form a spring contact,
bent the neg so it is sprung outward to make contact with outside of atty.
Soaked atty and cart and seems to work like a champ.
only tried twice as I do not have a replacement 801 atty.

I am going to guess that those alkalines won't last much more than a day. Could become an expensive device to operate in the long haul unless you can get some rechargeables that provide a decent amount of current.

My vapesule uses 4 aa rechargeable batts at 1.5V each. Fully charge they do go more than 6V. I still have my 801 atty going strong like the first day. I'm a heavy paper.
I think proper care and attention to the atty would make it last. I know by taste and even feel that my atty needs extra dripping or rest.
Enjoy!

I was going to put my 4 lith ion rechargables in this if I find the vape to be awesome.
Doesn't seem much stronger vape than the 3.7 original. I'll have to fiddle with it.

If you go to lith-ion, remember the volts are higher, I prob wouldnt run it higher than 2 of those..even then you may need it regulated down. If you want to use all the slots, talk to the people at Radioshack, they will give u the right diodes or regulaters u will need to knock ssome of the voltage down. If ur worried abt pooing the atty I prob wouldnt take it higher that 7v at max charge and I hear thats even pushing it.
Check out the atty mod forum, people will be coming up w/a new HV atty soon, I cant wait then we can really have fun modding!

I fiddled with the 4 cell pack. Cut a large diameter pen down to about 3", put a momentary switch in one end and a rca female in the other. Cut the center post on a R.S. gold rca connector and bent the prongs to fit my 510 atty, soldered that bad bot to another male and viola, one mod... Looks like frankenstein met godzilla and had a baby but what the heck. It works like a champ, gotta keep the atty and cart wet but I can visably "smoke " out a small room!!!
-
P.S. I put a piece of the pen spring in the center for the positive contact of my 510 atty adapter for great contact.
