Default Unprotected CR2 Batteries in My Mod?- How I make them safer, please read if your making yourself one.

I have made videos showing you how to make a 5 volt Detonator. I want everyone who has decided to make one to know they do use unprotected CR2 batteries. I am determined to make them as safe as possible.

This is a description of my take on how to make your mod safer.

    No CR2 batteries are protected
Non preotected batteries can ALSO vent-
    Batteries vent they don't exploide.

Venting happens if the batteries discarge too fast- the way that happens is a short circut- infinite loop where all the power is drained quickly.

All parts in my mods are heatshrinked and encased in expoxy-- much much less chance of a short.

Also the regulator does not allow the entire unit to drop below 5.00 volts - doing this means each battery can not drop below 2.5 volts. The regulator will not allow a drop below 5.0 - and not allowing any more voltage through it below the 5.0 volt will also stop a rapid discharge.

OK- but what if venting does happen?

The Mod you saw where the batteries vented did not have vent holes. With out vent holes the venting batteries preasure is either going to blow the end cap off, blow the attomizer off (hope fully not down someones throat) or blow up the body of the unit. Not Mine!

I drill vent holes in all my Mods. If everything gose wrong and the batteries do vent the batterie gasses will go out the vent holes. The vent hole are near the end. The worst that could happen is a litytle hot battery venting would get on your hand. My Mod will not blow up.

Best Tip- make sure to allways use your batteries in Sets of 2 and keep the sets together. Number the sets. Dont use 1 half charged battery and one fully charged - doing this will put too much stain on the 1/2 charged battery.

Hope this helps. You have nothing to worry about. Vape on.

    Robert

Heatshrinking and Expoxy Shells. I have also poured epoxy inside covering everything making them really solid inside thus preventing any movement or chance of broken connection or short. This IMO will prevent batteries from rapidly discharging and possibly venting.

All now have 3 Vent holes enely spaced like this

I got one before you put holes in them but no problem as I drilled my own holes in body.

    Kind of adds more character.

Like you said, any battery can vent so Im not any more scared of cr2s than any other battery,

Your mods do stop working when v drop -5v ..

I love mine you made for me..

    excellent price

Thanmks Man, Doots got one of the first 2 LED versions.

Right it will not vape below 5.00 volts.. Also, if you notice When the batteries are low and allmost ready to go below 5.01 when you push the button the Red LED will come on and the Green LED will dim just slightly. Nice visual recognition that you have 2-3 more puffs then you need to change the batteries.

Hey Doots I glad you drilled your own vent holes- they do add a little character. I like 3 evenly spaced holes. Note- I also drilled a few hole in the inner PVC sleeve. You may want to if you haven't allready.

I tried putting the batteries in WRONG positive to positive- They didn't even get warm.

    1. CR2's Don't blow up! They vent if you build a lousy mod without heat shirink and or other protection from short circut.,
    2. I make these with a lot of short circut protection so they don't vent.
    3. I know the battery gasses will come out the vent hole if this happens. It's a hole gasses will go through it.
    4. I don't know how exactly I could make this thing fail.

Tape the switch on, and drop some solder on the top to short it out.

Some batteries are just bad, and some could blow up. I think I read from one supplier it's like 1 in 100k. So it's like winning the lottery if it happens. I bet most do vent when I issue happens inside of them. Yet, how violent is that venting?

Hell I have seen a car battery explode before when charging it.

I made of video showing you how to make your own 5 volt Detonator.

If you want to make one then try ruining it my dripping soldier on it- go ahead. It will probly just not work.

My car has a gas tank- I'm sure I could get it to blow up too. I see no reason to try and do this.

without actually causing one to fail on purpose you can not be for sure it will not blow. If you are going to make the claim you need the proof of what will happen. That is essentially what the fda is banning things for now a days. Making statements that have not been proven.

A way to do it without destroying your connector with solder. Just leave the connector off and run two wires out. Tape the switch shut and twist the wires together. Dead short will see what happens. And like people like to say. Didnt happen without video.

By the way glad to see the vent holes anyway. Every little bit helps.

I could do that- I'm sure it would ruin my batteries. If nothing happened except the batteries failing then someone would say why don't you do it to 10 of them and see what happens to 10 or 100 or whatever. If the FDA want to buy 10 Detonators to test they can.

    .................................................. ..................................................

    Did you see this? http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...y-failure.html

His Mod blew the end cap off because there were no vent holes to allow the gasses to escape.

I have drilled vent holes in all my Mods to prevent this from happpening.[/COLOR]

I am not claiming to have made CR2 batteries completely safe.. All I am saying is if you use CR2 batteries in your Mod, I would make sure it has some vent holes in it.
