    Default A simple 5V Mod for a 510?

I've just finished going through all 30 pages and cannot seem to find the info I'm looking for...I think I got lost in all the variants!

I want to build a 5V box mod for DH's 510 and another for my 801.

I've ordered the batt connectors for both from Nerf and they should be here by next weekend. What I need, though, is a list of the remaining parts I'd need.

Like I said, there are a LOT of variants of the box mod and although I can solder fine, I'm unsure of which components I need other than the box/connector/switch/batteries (but which batts for 5V?), so I need to keep it as simple as I can.

    Anyone willing to help?

    Thanks,

    Sherry

you'll need either a voltage regulator or a booster to achieve 5V.

you'll have to use 2 batteries with a voltage regulator to limit it to 5V. A booster would only need one 3V but i think it may be a little more complicated. so you'll have to choose one or two battery setup

Radio Shack has a 7805 regulator.
As long as the input is higher than 5v the output is 5v.
Google 7805 egulator and it will show you which leads are input, output and ground(negative). No other parts are really needed

If you search the whole forum for 7805 you should find the simple schematic. I've seen it posted here.

I tried the 7805 regulators from RS and they dont work worth a crap. the ones from Texas Instruments work far better from my experiences.

Heres a direct link. and you get free ones to boot!!

Is there a RadioShack by you?

    4aa Battery Box
    Enclosed 4 “AA” Battery Holder - RadioShack.com

NO Switch(NO = Normally Open) Not the best switch...someone else will give you a better one

I prefer the TI Regulators(The just work better) but Radio Shack sells ones too
    +5V Fixed-Voltage Regulator 7805 - RadioShack.com

14500(AA Sized) li-ion Batteries (You Need Two and a Charger)
Protected UltraFire 14500 AA sized 3.6V Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery 900 mAh CR14500 Lithium Ion

And you already have the Adapters....Thats all you need...there are Better/cheaper places to buy this stuff...But Radioshack and batteryjunction are pretty quick and easy

Consensus says that the Ti UCC383TDKTTT-3G3 is the one to get... (Okay, so Shrek says it...) :-)

I ordered my free samples a few days ago - but apparently everyone else on the ECF board did too.. They are backordered until late November! :-(

Yes on the TI regulator, no on the RS one.

Cutoff on the TI (where it quits supplying 5v) is 5.5v. Cutoff on the RS is 7v. You can vape longer on a set of batteries with the TI.

Thanks to all who responded...I really appreciate the help!

I think I might have bought the wrong switch from RS...this "looks" the one I got, but mine has two prongs on the bottom instead of one.

I'll pick up the one recommended tomorrow.

The one you picked up is actually better suited for your purpose as it is a SPST. No need to take it back.
