So this is one of the standard smoke juices, fairly highly rated in the great RY4 roundup here on ECF. Apparently it's the same as the Bloog RY4, and both are Chinese, probably 100% VG e-liquids. I'm generally caiputious of products that are several steps removed from the manufacturer like this. SI is also developing a new USA-made e-juice line called Niquid, which is significantly more expensive, and less well known as far as taste goes.
I got the SI RY4 because it was on my list to try, and it was available at my local smoke shop. I'd actually gone in to get either Pharmboy's Black Sundae or the SI 555, both of which they usually keep in-- but there's been a run on the stuff recently, so their shelves were a bit depleted. I was itching to get my new shipment from Halo, so I decided to get the SI RY4, and I can see directly how it compares with Tribeca.
I'm vaping this with my 88mm smoov cigalike and a Halo mini-tank, which is great for flavor but kind of a pain in the neck to use.
Packaging: It came in a little box, with the Volt logo, name of the blend, and nicotine level clearly written on the outside, along withall the expected cautions about nicotine and keeping away from children. Inside was a clear plastic bottle with a childproof cap and a dropper tip, labeled again with logo, blend and nicotine level. Volt, unlike most of the manufacturers, has different labels for different blends, making them easy to tell apart on sight. I very much appreciate the childproof cap, since I looked into the toxicity of nicotine for my last post -- I do have a toddler in the house, and while I keep things well out of her way, the potential for her to get into some of the e-liquid was more than a little frightening.
The taste: to me, this is a straightforward vanilla caramel, with just a little tobacco to add some bitterness and character. There's a bit of honey in it too, almost like the smell of fresh shisha (I've never smoked a hookah, but I've been around when friends were using one, and this is the only juice I've found so far that reminds me of it). Very pleasant and not too complex. Has a good throat hit, consistent with the nicotine level. For me, I've found that 12 mg is about where I want it for now.
Presentation: 9/10. All it lacks is a glass bottle, which is just a personal preference.
Vapor: 8/10. Good bit not as thick as juices with VG.
Flavor: 9/10.
Throat Hit: 10/10. Perfect, for me.
Overall: 9/10. This was my all day vape before the Tribeca arrived, and I still enjoy returning to it.
