Protank head rebuild part 2

uveba2u3.jpg

This is the first secret to not burning your insulators...Ready wires. These heads were built at the factory using NR-R-NR wire. You can use just Kanthal, but trust me this is much easier, and the coil will last for at least a month (you will have to rewick more often than that, with a dry burn before you put in a new wick). The wires are $10 for 50 wires from Stormy's Vapor Cellar, so for 20 cents you have a new coil. And you can buy them in the resistance you need, no need to count coils.

I use this jig as it makes it much easier. Got it from a fellow ECFer named darkzero. PM him if you want one, I believe it was under $30, shipped. You can also use a drill bit...this is 1/16".

Trap the wire under the bottom screw, and run it up to the mandrel. See the tiny bump in the wire? This is the weld where the NR and R wire meet. You will want to put it just below the mandrel.

Wrap your wire around the mandrel, stopping where the other weld is.

Take the mandrel out of the jig, and clip one wire shorter than the other to make it easier to install in the cup. Leave the coil on the mandrel.
