The Appropriate Liquid for the Ex-Smoker (A New Version)

Different cigarettes have different strengths. Different smokers smoke different number of the cigarettes a day. In order to choose the right liquid for you and use the right amount of it per day you should take into consideration both these factors.

e-liquids are sold usually in the following strengths:

● 0 mg/ml
● 6 mg/ml
● 12 mg/ml
● 18 mg/ml
● 24 mg/ml
● 30 mg/ml
● 36 mg/ml

The strongest liquid on the market is 36 mg/ml. Never use any stronger liquid.

If you feel that you need a liquid in between the above strengths simply buy two different liquids and mix them together:

● 3 mg/ml = ( 0 mg/ml + 6 mg/ml ) / 2
● 9 mg/ml = ( 0 mg/ml + 18 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 6 mg/ml + 12 mg/ml ) / 2
● 15 mg/ml = ( 0 mg/ml + 30 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 6 mg/ml + 24 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 12 mg/ml + 18 mg/ml ) / 2
● 21 mg/ml = ( 6 mg/ml + 36 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 12 mg/ml + 30 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 18 mg/ml + 24 mg/ml ) / 2
● 27 mg/ml = ( 18 mg/ml + 36 mg/ml ) / 2 OR ( 24 mg/ml + 30 mg/ml ) / 2
● 33 mg/ml = ( 30 mg/ml + 36 mg/ml ) / 2

To calculate the amount of the nicotine in your liquid use the formula:

n × 20

where n is the amount of the nicotine per cigarette which you smoked.

For example if you smoked the cigarettes including 0.5 mg of nicotine per cigarette the formula looks like:

0.5 × 20 = 10

So you may use the liquids 12 mg/ml which are the nearest ones to the calculated 10 mg/ml.

If you do not know the amount of the nicotine in your cigarettes use the following equivalents:

● ultra light cigarettes equivalent is 6 mg/ml liquid
● light cigarettes equivalent is 12 mg/ml liquid
● full flavored cigarettes equivalent is 18 mg/ml liquid
● strong cigarettes equivalent is 24 mg/ml liquid

To calculate the amount of the liquid used per day use the formula:

N / 10

where N is the number of the regular cigarettes which you smoked a day.

For example if you smoked 15 regular cigarettes a day the formula looks like:

15 / 10 = 1.5

So 1.5 ml of the liquid per day should be enough for you if you smoked 15 regular cigarettes a day.

Attention: one roll-your-own cigarette is an equivalent of two regular cigarettes. So if you smoked 15 roll-your-own cigarettes double that number in the formula:

2 × 15 / 10 = 3

So 3 ml of the liquid per day should be enough for you if you smoked 15 roll-your-own cigarettes a day.

This is a real life example.

I smoked 35 roll-your-own cigarettes a day using European DRUM HALFZWARE tobacco blend.

● smooth blend is a light blend (12 mg/ml liquid equivalent)
● halfzware is a half strong or a half heavy blend (18 mg/ml liquid equivalent)
● zware is a strong or a heavy blend (24 mg/ml liquid equivalent)

So the equivalent of my halfzware cigarettes is 18 mg/ml liquid.

As I mentioned above in the case of roll-your-own cigarettes you should double their number:

2 × 35 / 10 = 7

So about 7 ml of an 18 mg/ml liquid per day should be enough for me. And – in fact – it is.

The formulas and your results are the rough hints only which you may use as a starting point. After a few days of the vaping you should know whether you need increase or decrease the amount of the nicotine in your liquid or the amount of the vaped liquid.

Never use at the same time some nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as nicotine gums or nicotine patches together with the vaping.

Remember to watch yourself in order to detect the possible symptoms of the nicotine poisoning (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine_poisoning). If you observe such symptoms stop vaping your liquid immediately.
