Hello all! I just want to recount my personal experience in case any other folks start noticing similar symptoms. First I should provide a bit of personal background. I have extensive environmental allergies. If it has fur or blooms in any way, then I'm allergic to it. I've smoked analogs for 27 years at right around a pack a day. I developed asthma after smoking for eight years which was controlled by either OTC or prescription inhalers. Being the analog addict I was I kept puffing away and was eventually diagnosed with early stage emphysema. I've been vaping a grand total of around three months and have already noticed some improvement in my lung function.

This last month I've really started experimenting with flavors from various vendors. I'll not go into what flavors or what vendors because that is not what this post is about. What I have noticed is that I have started coughing excessively even while vaping. I also noticed that one particular juice gave me that 'tight band around the chest' feeling on the very first puff. Being the hard headed (I like to call it determined) kind of guy that I am, I tried that flavor several times with the same result. However this evening, I went back to my original straight menthol juice and it was like hitting an asthma inhaler. My breathing has cleared right up and my coughing has stopped. So what I am trying to say, in my typically long winded fashion, is that some people like myself, may have adverse experiences with certain flavors or even with the same flavor from different vendors. Even though I am disappointed that I won't be able to vape some of the tasty, tasty flavors available to us it simply appears that this is the route I will have to take.

Hopefully this will help someone who may be experiencing what I've gone through. But of course keep in mind that any respiratory problems are best check out by a medical professional. :2cool:

I've experienced the same thing. Been off real cigs & vaping since new year's 2012. My experimentation with different flavors, PG/VG bases, nic level, & voltages reveals PG may be the cause of my coughing. A too high nic level also contributes (reduced from 24 to 18 to 12) but by far switching to 100% VG almost eliminates the coughing sensitivity. The only problem that remains is a flavor issue. Flavor does seem to deminish with lower nic content, but the real problem is the periodic change & disappearance of flavor. I mean all of a sudden for a couple of days, I will not be able to taste ANY vape flavor. It comes back after a couple of days. This is very alarming to me. Its not the juices, it seems to be me. I still taste food when this happens, and my sense of smell still works (i can smell the juice in the bottle), but when I vape, nothing. Any insight ? Could this be a serious health issue? Thanks.

Very similar experience with a new (for me) vendor. Cough, screaming headaches, short of breath. Now I am freaking out trying to figure out what I can and cannot vape. I seem to have reacted to EM and the PG from this vendor and don't have any other currently to see is it all PG, any PG at all?

I had a very hard time at first just finding e-liquids and flavors that I really liked, or that at least worked for me. Other forum member recommendations that sounded really good often didn't pan out for me, which was very frustrating. Eventually I found a small set of suppliers and flavors I liked, only to end up later having allergic skin reaction issues that didn't clear up until I switched from using PG to VG e-liquids. Only I didn't like most VG e-liquids as much as my favorite PG e-liquids, so I just had to go through another extended process of discovering what I would like and working up new blends that would satisfy. Right now I mainly use Intellicig's Ecopure Rich in 20-25ml nicotine strength blended with a bit of Dekang's Turkish Blended in 18-24ml nicotine strength, but I'll soon try blending a bit of Halo Freedom or Torque56 in the mix, at no more than a 1 to 4 or 1 to 3 ratio.
