why get a mech? Amazing info by Baditude

Mechanical mods were the first "mods" created. Originally modded from flashlight or other metal tubes. They started to grow a little out of favor about 3 years ago with the introduction of regulated mods, which offered variable voltage and built-in protective circuitry against short circuits which made them safer than mechanical mods. Many had built-in ohm meters and voltage meters and an LED screen.

The people from Evolve made the Kick, a drop-in processor module, which could offer a mechanical mod all the benefits of a variable/regulated mod. Mechs started to regain some popularity again.

Then some people began using sub-ohm coils in Rebuildable Atomizers, advanced juice delivery attachments. The protective circuitry of regulated mods do not allow sub-ohm coils, so these enthusiasts use mechanical mods to bypass those restrictions.

The vast majority of the regulated mods made today are manufactured in China, and the cheap build quality and durability of most of these leave much to be desired. Accidentally dropping one on the floor could easily ruin one, and since China manufacturers do not do repair work, people have to buy another repacement or find an alternative.

The recent popularity of mechanical mods can in part be attributed to the above. There are now hundreds of mechanical mod manufacturers who are building very affordable models on up to extremely expensive collector pieces of fine art. People who use mechanicals will say that a regulated mod will easily break with use because of their build and the fact that they have fragile electronics within them. Meanwhile a mechanical is built to be much more durable and can be easily fixed (?) with simple replacement parts, and has no electrical parts or wiring which can break or wear out.

Yes, to answer your question, you will be able to throw a mini protank on a mech and go at it. Just realize that your vape experience will be determined by the voltage of your battery. The vape will be strongest with a fresh battery and go gradually downhill until the battery is depleted of its usable charge. You could add a Kick to the mechanical, which would keep the voltage artifically regulated at a certain voltage that you set, and also gain the benefit of some short circuit protection.

It makes a lot of sense for a novice to start out with a regulated mod before a mechanical. The protective circuitry will keep you out of harm's way. Once you learn more about batteries and their limits and learn how to recognize when a short circuit occurs, then you can think about trying a mechanical mod.
