Lounging By The Beach - Part 7 Information for wicking materials & rebuilding

Some people use Silica Wick for rebuildables and some use Cotton. The cotton of choice for any build is Walgreens Studio 35 Beauty Organic Cotton Balls, available only in-store (not online). It is clean, 100% Organic cotton and doesn't need to be boiled to clean/purify it like most other cottons that are acceptable for vaping. There are several videos by RiP Trippers and Phil Busardo (and many others) that cover how to use cotton balls as wicking.

If you want to use Silica Wick instead of Cotton, Silica comes in mm diameter sizes. 2mm and 2.5mm Twisted are pretty good. Some people like 3mm. Twisted is often preferred over Braided. There is regular Silica wick and EcoWool. Silica is very good and is cheaper than EcoWool. Make sure to get High Quality Silica Wick. Check out Lightening Vapes for Silica. I bought 25 feet of 2.5mm for $14.50. They also have Kanthal in the sizes you’d want. I recommend 100 feet.

You will also need a fine tip Phillips screwdriver, or a Jeweler’s screwdriver set. Be careful not to torque the screws too hard. The heads may be fragile, and the iGo-L post threads may also strip out, though that's doubtful.

Shopping online for rebuild supplies is much cheaper than getting them from most Vape Suppliers (with the exception of the cotton balls that are only in-store at Walgreens). Buying these supplies in bulk is much better, too. You can get 100 feet of Kanthal for what you’d pay for only 1 to 3 yards of the same thing at a Vape Store. They normally sell 1 yard or 1 meter, so that’s 1-3 items versus only one, and you get much more.

You can shop eBay and Amazon for many rebuild items, but never get batteries or Vape Gear from there!!! Stick with reputable Vape Stores for Batteries, tanks, Mods, etc.

Kanthal
These are the types of Kanthal Kanthal A1
Always get Kanthal A1 or A-1 (same thing). You will be interested in AWG between 32g to 28g.

Properties of Kanthal
The higher the AWG number (32 AWG), the smaller the wire diameter, and the higher the Ohms/inch. 32g is smaller in diameter than 30g. 30g is smaller than 29g, etc. 32g has higher Ohms/inch than 30g, and 30g has higher Ohms/inch than 29g, etc. Also, 32g will heat up faster than 30g, and 30g will heat up faster than 29g and 28g. An advantage to a larger diameter wire (like 28g) is more contact area with the wicking, which makes more vapor, but you also have to select a wire gauge that will allow you to fit enough wraps in your work space to attain the Ohms you want. At normal Voltages, 28g will take longer to heat up. This was covered well in Jeff's posted link.
