I love micro coils and cotton!

WoW! micro coils with cotton in my DID and RSST is awesome! I was happy with regular coils with silica and then ekowool but cotton in a micro coil is .. dare I say... better than mesh. Threading the cotton down through the tiny coil isn't the most fun I've ever had but it's not really difficult. I almost wish I hadn't traded my zap.. with it's ability to remove the tank without disturbing the coil.. it would be perfect, just thread the cotton down, grab it and pull and then pop the tank back on.

I never expected this little experiment to go this well. I have to say, I like the vape of a mc with cotton in a genesis a little better than my kayfun. But the kayfun doesn't leak if it's laid on it's side so there's that.

Donnah, I'm at my wits end trying to drop the cotton thru the wick-hole. It has gone thru the coil alright, but just doesn't move any further. How did you do it?

You have to roll it pretty tight and thin to get it through the coil... once it peeps out the bottom of the coil, take some needle nose tweezers and gently pull it, bit by bit through the coil, down into the tank (it only takes a minutes or two)... you want the coil to snugly fill the coil by the time you get the tail down into the tank. I get better results if I leave some cotton hanging over the coil like shown in the pic but pushed down against the side of the coil. It doesn't seem to wick and taste as good if you cut the wick off at the top of the coil... so leave some hanging over. Like this...

Oh, that means you had made the wick+coil in a "tank disassembled" mode, did you?

no.. I wrapped the kanthal around a 1/16 drill bit, then stuck it in the wick hole and attached the wires and removed the bit...

then I rolled/twisted the cotton strip and fed it down into the coil... when it started coming out the bottom of the coil, I used fine tipped tweezers to grab the wick and pull it through the coil, down into the tank. there is a small gap between the bottom of the coil and the wick hole, that's where I grab the wick and feed it through mm by mm. It doesn't take long, maybe a minute or two and it's not difficult at all.

Here's a picture of where I place the tweezers to gently pull it through the coil. I like to try to get as much wick down into the tank as I can, then every few days if the flavor or vapor starts to get "off".. I can pull some wick up and essentially have a new wick in the coil. I don't think the flavor is quite as intense as the kfl but using 50/50 juice, I get massive clouds.

the above pic shows the tank with juice in it and the wick wet. That's just an illustration I took a few minutes ago... when putting the wick through the coil for the first time.. I do it with a dry tank and a dry wick. In the pic shown above, I've pulled the wick up a couple times to get a "fresh wick" so there's not a whole lot left in the tank but it's still wicking well as long as I keep the wick facing me when I vape so the natural tilt feeds juice to the wick.

I still love my micro/cotton builds in my DIDs! It's so easy to take out the wick, dry burn the coil and then thread a new wick down through the coil. Even with juice in the tank. It's a perfect vape here at home and for trying new juices. I don't take it out much because 1) I don' t trust it not to leak unless kept upright and 2) I have other things that can more easily be taken out.

I've found that if I leave the wick long coming out the top of the coil.. as shown above.. I can take that wick and tuck it down in the wick hole and effectively block off the air flow down that hole. As long as the air flow is blocked at the wick hole.. juice isn't apt to leak out the fill hole. Plugging the fill hole is an option and I've seen many do it.. but I find I don't get very good wicking action this way. I have a friend who carrys her cotton wicked RSST every where and says she doesn't have any issues with it leaking out.
