Boom in UK sales of so-called electronic cigarettes.(Headline)

So electronic cigarettes get featured on BBC News in order to be labelled a health fear by the 'WHO'.

Why does the government and the World Health Organisation seem to be so down on Electronic Cigarettes and their use? Nothing to do with the money and marketing allocated to 'Smoking Cessation' programs which have been promoted heavily since the ban.

Douglas Bettcher, of the World Health Organisation, said there was a "regulatory blackhole" which meant no-one knew just what these products contain.

Well, it's easy enough to at least find the following informaion:
Cartridges contain water, propylene glycol, nicotine, a scent that emulates a tobacco flavor and a membrane to suspend the ingredients. Propylene glycol (PG or MPG) is a colorless, odorless liquid which is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. PG is not acutely toxic (single dose, high exposure). The oral toxicity of PG is low. In one study, rats were provided with feed containing as much as 5% PG over a period of 104 weeks and they showed no apparent ill effects. Because of its low chronic oral toxicity, PG is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for use as a direct food additive. Since 1942, it has been included in New and Non-Official Remedies as a proper ingredient for pharmaceutical products and it is listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia. It is also widely used and accepted as an ingredient in dental preparations.

He also said:
"We are facing a new product. We do not know what is in these cartridges besides nicotine. What are the effects of heating and vapourising the nicotine and inhaling it?"

So, we can only imagine it's no where near as bad as heating nicotine and delivering it along with hundreds of chemicals and toxins the way a normal cigarette does.
If they are all so concerned then why don't they firstly, mention the information that is available, and secondly, pay to get the product tested!

How harmful is a normal cigarette..very, they kill you!
At least electronic cigarettes are certainly healthier and do not contain tar, tobacco or carbon monoxide, etc.
