Cleaning and making Kanger Protank II minis BETTER (also guest starring peas)

Ok I lied about the peas. But here is the deal - My protank II heads SUCK.

I got nice vapes for a few days off them, but guess what? After a bit it was burnt wet sheepdog taste.

This video talks about redoing your coils, so thats the first step:

You will need some tools too: 5/64ths drill bit (its 2mm), Kanthal Wire (I suggest 32 guage), a Box of CVS brand sterile cotton balls (or whatever brand you have locally thats sterile), some tweezers with a fine point, some tweezers with a flat point, and a lighter or better yet: butane torch. A straight pin might help with moving cotton o adjusting coils, but fine point tweezers will probably do the job better. Oh and lastly a pair of fingernail clippers for clipping Kanthal Wire.

you are going to really want to see your coils up close when you are adjusting them or putting the wick in.

LASTLY! very important!!! Some means to test resistance on your newly made coil!!! An ohm meter, or a resistance meter from any of a zillion online or brick and mortar vape shops. I got one from Harbor Freight and it kinda sucks so I think I'll take it back. I dont like it, I went cheapo and it needs to really be decent and not crap.

So..get all that stuff and watch the video.

All these tools are about 30 bucks, maybe not even that much since folks tend to have a few things out of this list already.

The helping hands allow you to really see up close so they are very useful, and that first link's price is...7 bucks + tax. I removed the alligator clip/bar so thats not in the way. I also store my drill bits and a cotton ball right there.

For wicks...a small amount of cotton - two dry rice grains worth - goes a very long way (you also trim off excess)...then just prime w/ juice, put tank back together...give a few draws on tank w/ no power..wait a few mins to let cotton wick..and BAM...better vapes.

Cleaning is easy too, remove cotton, throw away, then rinse coil, dry burn, rinse again, dry burn one more time to really get any gunk off, then load it with more cotton, trim, prime, draw, fill..wait...vape.

Anyways, thats my long rant and I dint get peas or anything so now im mad. Just kidding! I'm always mad. Unless I get ice creams.:2cool:

I pass Harbor Freight on my way to work everyday and the stuff you posted is exactly what I need. Had no idea those were so cheap! I just did my first coil build a couple days ago. Such a difference! I only used silica, though. I tried cotton, but could only taste cotton, even after letting it soak in really well.

Nice blog post, elfy.

Aw RiP did all the hard work, I just applied what I had to dig up to do the work :p

Cotton needs to be washed, I think..this sterile stuff from CVS I have..I dont wash it lol. Maybe I should?

Typical of ECF someone will chime in and they will have an answer for us both.

I get crappy taste from my coils, I remove that cotton and stick some new stuff in...its a lot better vape in 5 minutes. I do rinse/dry burn the coils, usually two rinses and two dry burns just to get gunk off/then dry the coils...not long pulses, 2 seconds or maybe 3...not trying to roast em. At low volts too, I might add.

The Harbor Freight stuff is nice, I need to add in some pieces too: Needlenosed pliers (2 bucks, dig around in the bin, some are crap and some will have HUGE points...find fine ones that have good spring action you like)

Second is item 04143 in the screw driver section of the store: 16 piece Precision Screwdrivers. The 2mm dealy is tops, cuz then you have a little edge on the bit to compress the coil ;-). Its cheap for both items, about 6 bucks + tax. I paid about 6.60.

Aw thanks, but I wish I could edit this sucker a little bit and stick in more info about tools I've found lately - went to Michaels (the craft/hobby store) yesterday and picked up a cheapo set of tweezers for example....cuz I had the 40% off coupon :).

....This way maybe I can carefully squish coils together and get them nice and compact, but you really have to LOOK at the tweezers in the package - they are very cheap so you might get some that arent really parallel and will have to do a little fixin' on them to make them perfect.

BUT...thats the nature of very cheap tools~
