Quick starter guide I put together for friends...

SLB KGO Starter Kit and e-juice, links, info, quick starter guide

This is getting bigger as I try to put together a simple guide... Eek, sry it is about three times what I intended size wise, but contains what I think is all relevant info -- about 50 hrs of research condensed into this message.

Start Here:

Now on to the kit:

After reading a lot, there are a ton of starting options that are viable. However, this would be where I would have started had I known more. This is built for performance and reliability, not to look as much like a cigarette as possible. Those who relapse from using a pv (personal vaporizer) usually do so because they run out of supplies, their battery dies, or some other malfunction and thus were left with no other choice but to grab a pack. This kit has great reviews and you might find it from another supplier, but this vendor has high ratings.

Kit contains everything you will need except the e-juice. Cartomizers are blank ready to be filled. YouTube has tons of how to vids on how to fill, really not hard, but best to learn so as to not burn the cartomizer out on first try due to under fill, or flood it which produces other issues.

SLB KGO Starter Kit - this is the starter kit, runs $43.99 + 4.00 for an extra 5 cartomizers (good deal). Only comes in chrome atm. Use coupon code: ECFDCV to get 5% off your order, and from what I understand if you buy extra juice, etc. to go with the kit and get to $65.00 you get free shipping. That extra $20 or so can be used to get a month's worth of supplies.

Cartomizers do eventually die, but they can be refilled for a while -- depends on what juice goes in, maintenance, etc. This kit comes with 5. I would suggest getting the 2.0 Ohm option - color is your choice.

And just what is a cartomizer? The combination of the cartridge (holds juice) and atomizer (heats it up) into a single unit. Much easier to use than a two piece design.

Cool thing is, he also sells e-juice so you can get everything from one stop shop to start. I'd start with 5ml or 10ml to test it to see if you even like it. Don't get the large bottles (30ml) to start. Also, standard ratio is 80% PG to 20% VG. If you smoke 1 pack a day, expect to go through 1 - 3 ml of juice a day. If you opt to get a few flavors, I'd suggest getting extra cartomizers. You won't want to run multiple flavors in a cartomizer just yet (takes cleaning and maintenance skill). I recommend at least one cartomizer per flavor. Good news is that they are usually about $1.20 per cartomizer and come in packs of 5. Site sells them for around $6 and change. Don't forget that you can throw 5 extra in with the kit for a one time $4.00 charge. If you order more, for ever pack of 5, you get a free e-juice sample. :)

EJuice - juices are here. Yes, they do have that flavor. Wait till you see what the big e-juice vendors carry. :)

There are a ton of juice providers, I'm still sorting them out and can make recommendations on them later. However, nice to get all you need to start from one vendor when you start.

-----------------

I'm ready to order, but what is this and that? I don't know what to select.

Now you go to order and you have to answer some basic questions and go ummmm..., so the following info will help you make a choice.

Ratio of PG vs. VG for the juice. From what I understand, more PG = more of a throat hit (the sensation that smoking gives), more VG gives more vapor (the feeling that smoke is going into the lungs). Some are allergic to PG, so some go with 100% VG, but then the liquid is thicker and so usually has flow issues in the cartomizer. I still recommend 80/20 to start. You can experiment from there. (Note: I think this vendor only has 70/30)

And what about the amount of nicotine?

Now for the important part. How much nicotine. Really depends on your smoking habits. I suggest get at least one 18mg and 24mg bottle. If one is too strong, use the other. If it's not strong enough, at least one is stronger to get you through any craving fits. If your smokes are usually strong, you'll probably end up on 24mg, maybe even 36mg, but don't think 36mg is available from (vendor name removed). You will know if it is too strong. Either cut back on the sessions, drop the strength, or both. However, if you don't get one strong enough, you won't make it through a craving and go back to an analog (pv community's term for cigarettes). I tried 18 and it didn't work for me, so I went 24.

Here's one link that explains more:

If you want to know more, keep reading:

I should mention that the KGO is a manual battery. What that means is that it will not work unless you hold down a button while you take a drag.

Benefits are that it is more consistent and reliable. Doesn't auto fire from wind, sound, etc... (some other brands are plagued by this). You can also shut the device off so it doesn't fire in your pocket, bag, purse, etc...

Cons are you can't just stick it in your mouth and drag like a real cig. Doesn't take long to get used to. Also, having it hang in your mouth isn't an option, and the KGO is probably too big to do that anyhow. Also, many automatics require a primer puff to heat the coils and so that first drag is kinda wasted. Few autos like the one I have don't have this issue.

If I didn't mention it, the KGO is a 1100 mAh battery. The cig lookalikes come as a 100 - 200 mAh battery. To give size into consideration, a 100 mAh cig replica battery will last you maybe 2 hours tops, and is just a bit bigger than a 100 cigarette. If you get a mini so as to find one that is the size of a cig, you're looking at an hour if your lucky. Those who use that type of model carry a pcc or a personal charging case, which kinda replicates a cigarette pack, just allows you to recharge on the go. Did I mention there are a ton of options, size, types, etc... lol

Anyhow, stick with the KGO as a great starting point. I will warn you that most who do quit smoking tend to hunt for another model within a week or a few months depending on what they started with - usually to find a backup unit or to find a more reliable unit. The KGO will probably not be your 1st and last model, but at least it comes with a backup already in the kit and holds most down much longer than those that start with the heavily advertised starter kits.

-----------------

I'm really into this concept and want to jump past this starter kit and get a pro model right from the start:

If you want to skip the KGO starter kit and get a PV that probably will just last you for a long time, you can go with what I'm looking at now based on my research. It's a long term PV with all the safety, bells, whistles, etc.. out there and considered to be one of the top units. They carry two models, the Provape and the Provari. The Provari is a variable voltage model, ask me if you want to know what that means or google is your friend. Just search for personal vaporizer variable voltage.

It is a bit more pricey than the KGO, but still less than some of the cig lookalike starter kits out there that just don't cut it. Don't forget, what you spend on this may be less than what you spend on cigarettes and remember every dollar spent here is going towards a less harmful activity than smoking. :)

ProVape E-Cigarettes: Buy Electronic Cigarettes & Smokeless Cigarettes

They have a provape-1 starter kit that would be a great place to start if you don't want to jump to variable voltage, but you can opt for the provari v2 if you so choose.

Be aware that on the provape-1, they have two starter kits. One comes with cartomizers, one comes with an atomizer. There's a difference and atomizers are a whole different way to vaporize the fluid. I suggest you stick with cartomizers and read up on atomizers if your curious. In the end you'll probably use both types.

Hey, to be honest I didn't read much of what you have here. I just want to watch a video and click the links and go.

So that's what I've got so far. Again, critiques welcome. If anything, hope it help someone new on the site. There are far more detailed postings on ECF, and I still recommend you go to them for a more comprehensive read.

Thanks for reading. :)
