Lately I have not even been carrying them in the antibacterial spray bottles I modded. I have just been sticking them in my front pants pocket or the front pocket on my sports coat. But this would be cool if I wanted to carry them on a lanyard.

11-19-09

Today is the 7th day of vapping and it was a crappy day.

I have been craving a smoke soooooooo bad today.

I thought I could overcome it by vapping more and using a higher nic content between 24mg and 30mg. Had to recharge 1 of the batts (thank God I have 4 and the passthrough), and was constantly filling the carts like every 6th draw.

Oh I had wonderful vapor, even managed to blow a smoke ring. Great throat hits going on, great taste but it hasn't stopped the craving.

Finally gave in and smoked the last cig in the house. 2 hours later and I'm digging through the ashtrays in the house and garage trying to find a smokeable butt. Of course none exist because I emptied out most of the ashtrays.

So I start chain vapping. I'm vapping like a possesed steam engine and it ain't helping.

You know when you get a craving so bad that you don't care if you leave the house looking like the bride of Frankenstein? That's me. I swear to God the people at the gas station thought I was a homeless person strung out on drugs.

Anyway, I get my smokes 2 packs of Marlboro's and come straight home. I figure that should alleviate some of the anxiety about craving a smoke.

But NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Life can't be simple for me. Now I get into a heated argument with the pack of smokes sitting in front of me.

Me: "No, I'm not going to open you. I'm
going to sit here and vape until you go
        away."

Marl: "You want me. I know you do."
Me: "No I don't"
Marl: "Oh yes you do. That's why you
bought me. You love me, you need
me, you want me. Admit it."
Me: "Shut up! I'm not listening to
        you. La,la,la,la,la,la, la, la, I can't hear
        you!"

This is not good. Not only am I talking to the pack of smokes, I start multi-tasking. (I do this when I'm stressing out badly.)
I'm vapping away, peeling and coring apples to dry, sweep the floors, mop, do the dishes, clean the counters.

I finally sit down and give into the craving. "See, that wasn't so bad."

I had a total of 4 analogs today. In the end, I realized that's damn good considering that just 7 days ago I was smoking 2 packs a day.

As for the analogs, they're sitting by my keyboard.
Marl: "Psst. Wanna light me up?"
Me: "No, when I'm finished with this, I'm
       going to bed. "
Marl: "Pssstt...."
Me: "Shut up"
Marl: "Pssssstttt, come on, just a
Me: "Good night Marl."

I received my shipment on 11-12-09, so it's been about a week of vapping.
Not completely off the analogs, but have cut back considerably. Sometimes I just miss the analog. Then when I do smoke, it's "Ewww, icky, icky, nasty, barfo." So I put it out. 10 minutes later, puff, puff, ewww, icky, icky, nasty barfo.

I swear, I'm my own experiment in stimulus/response.

In the meantime, I've ordered from CigNot unflavored nic 26mg, 0nic flavorings of Cigar, Marl. and Dunhill. The Dunhill is fab. Smooth, very little throat hit, but the taste is wonderful.

Marlboro is alright. Gotta mix it with something cause the taste isn't there.

Cigar is good, nice taste. But I don't see myself vapping on this alot.

So, I then ordered Lorann's Flavorings from Country Grocery's.
$1.09 per flavoring for .125oz.
Ordered the following:
Coconut
Creme de Menthe
Coffee
Key Lime
Mango
Pineapple
Root Beer
Sassafras
Chocolate
And for my coffee that I drink Cinnamon Chocolate Coffee Flavoring.

Now I have to order those little itty, bitty bottles to put the stuff in. Another order goes out to United Plastics.

Today, I got my bottles!! Time to set up the lab!!:-D:-D

I cut down the 26mg to 18mg nic by adding glycerin. (Tried vapping the 26mg with Dunhill flavoring. But after 10 min. of vapor heaven, my hands start shaking and I'm getting a headache.)

Take a rest for a while then back to mixing.

Keepers:
Marlboro with Chocolate. Tasty

Creme de Menthe with Chocolate - heavy on the menthe. Tastes like Andes Mints

Dunhill and nic - For analog cravings.

Needs working:
Coconut and pineapple. WTF was I thinking?

Conclusion of the 1st week:

1. Taste is more important to me right now than amount of vapor, throat hit or look of the e-cig.

2. Don't vape tons of different flavors in one sitting. It's like drinking mixed drinks all night long and the last drink is a beer. Hurl chunks city.

3. When the kitchen starts looking like a sauna, it's time to stop vapping.

4. Don't vape around the dogs. They will beg. Then you'll feel guilty and have to give them doggie treats.

This is a great adventure and I'm having fun!

Some of the appeals of a lighted cigarette derive from the appeals of fire in general. Fire is the symbol of life, and the idea of fire is surrounded by much superstition. In this connection, it is interesting to note that traces of superstition can be seen in the smoking habits of modern person. For instance some people never will light three cigarettes on one match based on experiences during World War I. As three soldiers were lighting up the third man was hit when the light of a match flared up for the last time. The custom of lighting another smoker's cigarette for them may serve as a friendly gesture or even have an erotic significance.

Smokers have remarked that smoking cigarettes is like being with a friend. The companionable character of cigarettes is also reflected in the fact that they help us make friends. In many ways, smoking has the same effect drinking has by breaking down social barriers. Two smokers out on a date light up a cigarette as soon as they get into their car. Immediately they feel at ease, for they have found an interest they both share. Therefore, an electronic cigarette is the perfect solution.

Hello to anyone who might be reading this. I've been noticing that many sites offer disposable cigarettes and even disposable cigars. This brings to mind the fact that if the disposable vaporizers become popular (if not already), then they will no doubt create a large amount of wasted materials. This also applies to reusable/rechargeable vaporizers and all of their parts. I'd bet that every part of the vaporizer is recyclable. So why aren't the e-cig companies pushing for recycling? I bet it would make them look even more favorable towards certain skeptics and customers alike.
Cigarette brands analyzed by researchers from Lyon (France)

We already knew that cigarettes contain heavy metals, tar and other carcinogenic chemical compounds ...

Three Lyonnais researchers have recently publish their findings in the American scientific journal "Environmental Health Perspectives.

According to them, the most cigarettes brands also contain bacteria that cause pneumonia, septicemia, meningitis and other staphylococci

My Daily Trusted Mod

you know... I continue to try different things here is what I have tried lately:
slug
blue foam with folded (long way) straw to hold it up
poly fill with folded straw to hold it up
modified rho mod (looking like a V from the top)
PTB mod that looks like lips on the top http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...r-ptb-mod.html

In the past I have used so many things in the past including:
poly ribbon
blue foam and
brass screen http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...tml#post590831
and even before these, varying degree, of successes I have tried things that I would not suggest to anyone including (new) shoe laces, and paint brush bristles.

many times I find something that is working for someone else in this forum I try it.
Many times I find that they are comparable to what I had with the FRF PTB mod.
Comparable in vapor, taste, throat hit, initial cart fill and even top off fill.
I find myself coming back to this FRF PTB mod and I think I found the reason.
As vaping just becomes more of a part of my life and no long the only thing Im living for (slight exaggeration) as long as Im satisfied with the basic TVT (taste, vapor, and throat hit) and I dont have to keep topping off every hour or so... what becomes more important to me is the maintenance and topping off convenience.

I have been making rho mods slightly taller than the 510 cart so I no longer need a paper clip all the time to do anything. I can use my finger nails to remove the PTB, rinse it off, dab it dry on a paper towel and reuse.

Because of the spiral in the middle topping off is very quick. I am no longer interested in counting the drops all the time (I still do every once in a while and I get 19 drops in an empty cart and 10-15 drops topping off *results may vary). Usually I just hold the cart on a 45 degree angle, touch the tip of the dropper on the bottom part of the ptb and squeeze until I see it pool in the middle of the mod. I have not been able to top off this easily and accurately with many other mods.

I love the fact that people are still looking for the 'holy grail' of carts and I find myself on here everyday looking for it.

I guess there are people that have found what they are looking for and for them the search is over. Although I realize that what works for one person does not always mean that it works the same for everyone else, I guess what I am saying in this long post is that the FRF PTB mod is the one I still consider my daily, trusted mod.

hope this helps.

DECISIONS, DECISONS, DECISIONS

What to get? From whom? How many of this, how many of that?

(Thanks to the forum and the wonderful people who have shared their information!!!)

I made a list of my smoking habits, where do I smoke the most, why, etc.

Then I made a list of models I was interested in based on information found in the forums.

I finally narrowed my decision down to 2 models: the DSE901 and the 510.

I decided on the 901 and then went shopping as to who had the better prices for a noob.

I placed the following order with HealthCabin:
2 DSE901 Starter Kits
1 USB passthrough
5 boxes of extra carts
1-24mg Turkish Tobacco
1- 24mg Coffee
My order came to a total of: $99.00 plus change.

My order arrived in 7 days (including Veteran's Day). How cool is that? I'm really impressed at the fast shipping, customer service and prices of HealthCabin. Awesome!!

DAY 1

My order is here!!! Happy dance!:-D:-D:-D
I go through my order to make sure everything is there and in working condition. I read the destructions. Fairly simple and straight forward.
I take out a batt, atty, and prefilled cart.

Here goes! I take a drag off the 901. There is no taste and some vapor. Hmmm.
Take 2 more drags. Not like smoking at all.

There is no harshness to the vapor. No nasty smell. Very, very smooth. Until the 4th drag. Then it tastes like kaa-kaa. Completely forgot about the primer. Ewwwwww. So, drop 3 drops of Turkish Tobacco. My tongue goes numb, and there is a nasty after taste.

I feel very tired but in a good way. Like someone has wrapped a warm blanket fresh from the dryer around me. I feel very, very calm. No jitters, nothing. Strangely calm.

What is amazing, is that 3 hours later, I light up a smoke. 3 hours!!! I've never gone 3 hours without a smoke. It's like I forgot about it!!

So I light up a smoke and gag. Ewwww - it stinks and tastes nasty - like sucking on a dirty sock.

Go back to the 901. Gotta try the passthrough. Hook it up and start vapping. Of course, had to get the primer taste out.
Put in a new cart with Coffee flavoring. Tastes nothing like coffee.

So, the first day, I've only had 3 cigs. I'm not getting a throat hit with the 901 and surprisingly, I don't miss it. I really prefer the smoothness of the vapping. Also, I thought I would prefer alot of vapor, but that isn't important either. What is important to me is taste and the mg. I'm thinking 24 mg is a bit high and I should try a lower dosage.

DAY 2

Have a lot of errands to do today. Left the house without my 901. 15 miles from home, I light up a smoke. Another "EWWWWWWWWW". Wish I had my 901 with me. Old habits are hard to die.

I'm gone from the house for about 8 hours. Start smoking again. By the time I get home, I'm cranky and irritable. This is the pre Super B*tch stage.

Later that night, I'm vapping away at the computer realizing that I HAVE to get some other types of flavorings and HAVE to cut down on the 24mg. I'm not getting any throat hit with the 901 which is alright with me, but my tongue and mouth are going numb with the 24mg.

Fortunately, I ordered some USP Glycerin from Wally World - will be in tomorrow. I've also ordered some Lorann's flavoring from Betty's Groceries online. Then I ordered 2-15ml of 24mg unflavored nic juice, and 3 tobacco flavored zero nic juice from Cignot.

OBSERVATIONS:

Am positive that flavor is more important to me now as well as cutting down the nic.

Realized that I only smoked 1/2 a pack of smokes today. I truly thought I had smoke my usual 1 pack.

This is so strange for me. I'm making a conscious decision to vape, but not a conscious one to stop smoking. But I have very little desire to smoke an analog. I'm not liking the analog. It's harsh, stinks, tastes awful, hurts my chest.

DAY 3

Vapped with my morning coffee. Wow!
Went to Wally World to pick up my glycerin. Then DH and I went to an apple orchard to get apples for drying. Took my 901 with me. Vapped along the way. Ordered 30 15cc bottles and 15 6cc bottles from UnitedSpecialityPlastics for mixing. Oh yeah! Bought 2 zippered pencil bags and a small see-through bag for my e-cig stuff.

OBSERVATIONS:

Had only 4 cigs today. DH and son are noticing that the house doesn't stink like cig smoke. I'm still feeling tired, but still calm. Seems like I have burned off the primer on my 2 attys. 1st batt "died" and had to recharge. Still have 3 batts ready to go. The flavor of the Turkish Tob. and Coffee aren't tasting any better.
Throat and mouth very sore by the end of the day. Almost like a burning sensation, so had to stop vapping. Had an analog before bedtime.

This blog is more for me chronicling my journey with the e-cig. It's a place where I can come back to - to see where I've been, how far I've come, and where I am going.

I invite you to share this journey with me. You are welcome to post your comments here.

BACKGROUND

I've been smoking now for around 20 years anywhere from 1 to 2 packs a day. I made a conscious choice to smoke. I remember the circumstance, the reason, the time of day I made this choice.

I once had a therapist tell me that, "Once an addict, always and addict." How true. We just substitute one addiction for another. One obsession for another. That's an addictive personality.

So, a few weeks ago, I realize I'll be running out of smokes and it's time to re-order. With the price of smokes going sky-high, I've been buying cheaper and cheaper brands. Unfortunately, so has every other smoker in the US. Now, there are no cheap cartons of cigs to buy. Even the crappiest cigs are getting expensive.

I find an overseas supplier where I can get cartons of smokes for around $8.00 but I have to buy in bulk. I'm ready to place an order for 6 cartons, s/h around $15.00.

Then I read that the cigs are manufactured in India, "per the exacting standards of Philip Morris Company..."

WTF?

They're made in India for cripes sake. What exacting standards? Cheap labor? Where does the tobacco come from? Instead of 4,000 harmful chemicals added, did they up it to 10,000 harmful chemicals? Yeah, Philip Morris has been the epitome of exacting standards.

So, I'm sitting at my computer mad as hell thinking I gotta do something to get out of this madness. I'm mad at myself for having started this roller coaster ride. And yes, I've tried quitting, numerous times with disastrous results. Each time I turn into Super B*tch. My face contorts, I spew foul language, I take candy away from babies, kick the dog. People are begging me to start smoking again.

I see on the smokes website a box that says, "buy e-cigs". I click on that box, and the rest as they say is history.

I find this forum and spend 3 days and nights camped at my computer reading and trying to assimilate as much info as I can.

Then I sit down with my family and share what I have found and that I would like to try this e-cig phenomena. My son is ecstatic that I'm going to quit. My husband is reserved, he's just hoping I don't turn into Super B*tch again.

Another PTB Mod

I wanted to make a quick PTB mod after wasting half a PTB in an attempt to make a 510 cartomizer (didnt work).

I am still using the FRF PTB mod but this is what I have in my 'pipe' right now.

I took a half PTB rolled it long way.
Folded it in half and placed into an empty mod with the fold sticking out the top.
I bent the PTB over the top of the cart on either side.
Removed the PTB from the cart then folded it at the crease making an M shape.
Filled the cart with about 15 drops.
Placed the Mod in the cart.
Added a couple more drops until topped off.

It works really well. Basically the folds on the top act as a plug while leaving room for the atty bridge. The outside folds remain on either side of the bridge when the cart is attached. For this time I did not fray it even though it probably would help in the directional wicking.
Vapor, Taste and Throat Hit is comparable to the FTF Mod.
One of the down falls is refilling. Since you cannot see when it is filling up as with the FRF mod what I have to do is stick the end of the dropper against the top of the mod and squeeze to get some juice in the cart (dropping works too) then drop until i see some liquid pooling on the top.
One of the advantages is the shape. It does not change as the FRF mod does. When you remove the cart the shape is what it is. Almost looks like lips. Another big advantage is, because it is more of a plug, there is no leaking.

Hope this helps

This was the body of and email I received today with the subject, "Vaporing."

What is your opinion on my response?

There is a lot of stuff out there. Models, types, vendors, distributors. Here is the best information I can give you.

Where I get my stuff is from www.nhaler.com
I did start off getting the starter kit from www.blucig.com
BluCigs for me was a good way to start since they had a 30 day money back guarantee but they are so swamped that there is a 4-6 WEEK wait to get the product.
NHaler.com ships out same day, their prices are good and the customer service is really good as well.
Shopping at NHaler.com there is always a $10 shipping cost. But he has a code that I got from http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...tml#post598330 that gives you 10% off your order. (SAVEINNJ) He ships from New Jersey. The last order I made was 5PM Friday and I got it on Monday.

What I use is the 510 manual battery. There are other models that have an automatic battery like the one Blu has but I did not like the fact that the switch was so sensitive that it acivated the heating element when there was some wind or noise. With the manual battery you turn it on, take a slow long smooth drag then unpress the button to turn it off.

I got the starter kit that included the PCC (Personal Charging Case) That way I dont have to worry about being near a computer or wall jack to charge the batteries. http://shop.nhaler.com/product.sc?productId=42
You have a choice of color, LED color and flavors for the 2 small bottles.
He has what he calls High Voltage juice. These are meant to be used with a high voltage battery but if you just get the starter kit the difference between High Voltage and other juices is the nicotine concentration. The High Voltage is only 12mg as opposed to the 24mg in his other flavors. I use mainly the 24mg for the full throat hit.

There is a cheaper starter kit you can get if you want to check it out first that does not include the PCC. That is the one that Christina got. There are other sites that sell the PCC separately for $20-$25.

Just to let you know the one thing that 'vapers' complain about the unit is the cartridge that the liquid goes in. It is filled with a poly-fill material that works ok for the first couple of drags then degrades. This makes you add a couple of drops of juice to get the flavor back. What I do is use material other than what is supplied and it works really well for me.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
