Joye510 cartridge mods

mod 2: SCOTTYBALLS ZFM mod with better airflow

Status:
Finished

Parts:
Joye510 round cartridges, cartridge cap, razorblade, straw, awl or paperclip

Progress and Notes: Following the instructions outlined here by member SCOTTYBALLS I modded 3 Joye510 cartridges successfully with the ZFM method; though I ran into the same issue with gurgling I'd previously had with unmodified carts. The hole method is unreliable and caused the carts to leak far too freely, flooding the atty and leaking when removed. The cross shaped cuts are far better for this purpose as they create a seal when not in use and drip with improved reliability.

I discovered on accident that the flat mouthpiece was removable- afterward I was constantly drying fluid that collected here from condensing vapor left in the the airway. Later I decided to widen the gauge of both holes for easier drag, and discovered that the plastic piece with a hole inside the cartridge was, in fact, a separate and removable piece.

Removing this piece with the awl from my Swiss Army knife I then proceeded to widen the hole in the end cap by slightly heating the awl with a propane torch and twisting. Not only was the drag greatly improved, but there no longer is an issue with trapped e-liquid. Condensing fluid now drains down the inner sides of the cartridge and flows freely back into the metal wick.

Members posting in SCOTTYBALLS ZFM thread mention usinf a syringe to refill the carts, though I find it easier to simply use the metal rod from my 3 part pipe tool to lift the silicone plug from the cross shaped cuts.
