Cotton wicks???

Hello fellow vapers.
I have 90 days free from analogs that I was making myself for .90 cents a pack. Smoking 3 packs a day for me wasn't expensive , just costly on my lungs.
Started with stock C3, C4 cartomizers ontop of a 650 mah battery. Through the weeks of learning all about great vaping, coil rebuilding was a must. Of course silica wicking is the standard but I used cotton ball, cotton yarn ( boiled ) and cheesecloth. Cheesecloth rolled to about 3mm wick size and used in my protanks & mt3's were my favorites for the last 30 days. ( Love the bottom wicking tanks )
But the last few days I've been experiencing an annoying hack like something needs to be cleared from my throat. I switched over to a new / stock MT3 tank and within a day my throat cleared up.
The cotton cheesecloth gives a much bigger vape cloud than the silica wick, and when I first started using the cheesecloth I was getting much more taste. Now it seems the silica is getting great flavor, but still only a nice vape cloud.
NOTE: The next day I switched out to a rebuilt cotton coil, only to feel my throat loading up again with that hard to clear out hack.
I will have to do more in depth studying with different e-juices to see if it's something else besides the cotton cheesecloth that's aggravating my throat.
On a much larger note : My barking cough from 3 packs a day was gone on day 5 of vaping .

I have now tried cotton butchers twine as wick material. It resembles silica in respect to the way it is wound, but it's soft where silica is slick feeling.
Works great as a wick but after 1 day I'm starting to feel that flem load up in my throat.
I have tried PG juice to see if this throat issue is from the VG juice, but it must be the cotton.
I'll continue with the cotton butchers twine for another day to see if my throat feels more congestion.

It's August 13th.
I've been playing with different DIY/Juices & store bought. Not 100% sure yet but it seems to be the 90% VG juices I make might be the cause of the lm load up in my throat. I vaped 4-5 ml 80% PG store bought ejuice in 1 of my MT3's, ( with a cotton butchers twine wick ), and noticed no issues. I filled the same MT3 with my home made 90% VG mix, and after half of the tank noticed the flem load up coming back.
In a couple days I will re-do this test using a silica wick.
Without being 100% positive yet, I leading to believe its the heavy VG mixes.

For the final post to this blog, note that my throat issue has eased up due to the juice.
I've been using 50/50 PG/VG, as well as the coiled wick being Silica and the flavor wick cotton. ( Bottom wicking tank setups, Pro Tank / Evod )

I'm using my own DIY liquids at 90PG/10VG, gives me plenty of vapor and very little throat hit and flem. The flavor seems to steep better, quicker too.

Thanks for sharing.. I think I need to go off the 100% vg I've been vaping for 10 months.. I'm gonna start blending down hoping a 70vg30pg will be good. I have found that vg seems
To be good in the winter when its cold & drier, but in the summer it becomes too much. Vg seems to hydrate more and pg seems to dehydrate the respiratory system. More humidity in the summer months causes the vg to over hydrate itself. If you get what I mean..
