There's no need to invert the syringe and expel the air pocket. Unlike administering medicine into a human body, the presence of an air pocket is crucial to being as accurate as possible in DIY
juice, especially in smaller quantities. Without the air pocket, it's difficult to draw exactly to the desired measurement line because the rubber seal on the plunger is black and so are the measurement scales. It's hard to read where you are when the rubber seal is behind the line scales. Having an air pocket between the rubber seal and the
juice in the barrel makes it easier to see the lines, anticipate the target and draw the
juice to the desired level.
Also, drawing air before drawing in the juice ensures that there will be enough air to later push out any remaining liquid in the needle.
