yes, use sweetener if you don't like the test batch. I wouldn't add sweetener at the beginning. Also, I would wait a few days before adding 1 drop of Real Lemon per 10ml. Add the lemon if your trial sample still tastes raw or unfinished, but only after a few days of steeping... never from the git go or until you are really familiar with the flavorings you have.

IMO, EM is used to slightly sweeten a mix, but it also dulls or mutes the flavors. Some trials need this but most don't. Personally, I never use it.
It can turn a bright, vesty mixture into a muddled mess.... just because you wanted a touch of sweetness. It's ok in some tobacco mixes, IMO, but not in most of what I personally make.
