Unless you're educated in organic chemistry, you're not going to comprehend the manufacturing process and the solvents used. If you research on how every chemical you put in your body is synthesized, then you wouldn't take medication, only drink water, and only eat fruits, vegetables, and meat you kill. If you're sincerely worried about the solvents used in the manufacturing process of rayon then I suggest you don't do the research because I gerentee you ingest products that uses chemicals in the process manufacturing that are much more volatile to the human body.

Tencel *Top - is like ramie *top to work with, if you've tried that. There are guys that have success with it.

I still stand behind rayon being safe to use. Also I've been doing a lot of research to see if I can find tencel in that same cut.

Here's some comparison pics so you can see the difference...
Rayon on the right - tencel *top on the left.

The caution has nothing to do with the lyocell itself. Only the dyes & such it takes to make garments out of it.

Just adding clearification.

Spread it man let us know what they think!

It's the cleanest non tasting wick ever.... And traditional rayon is geotex certified free of harmful chemicals and tencel/lyocell is made with an evironmentally friendly non toxic process.

When I get time I will put the chemistry together on it. Planning to show the chemical reactions that take place completely remove the chemicals from the rayon fibers and all that's left is the cellulose in an atom chain. These processes and reactions are at the atomic level. Pure to the atomic level. That's why it tastes so pure. That's what I'm looking to prove.....

Here is a description of the chemical process.

Treehead - have a look....

Rayon Fiber - Rayon Staple Fiber, Rayon Textile Filament Fiber, Rayon Industrial Filament Fiber

An In depth research paper - go to page 33/18

"In this process, cellulose will be regenerated into cellulose II, and carbon disulfide and H2S will be released."

Lol as you know rayon doesn't melt.. that's nothing but Mis-information.... That keeps people from trying this incredible wick. I'm glad you all came on this journey with me, were laying the ground work for our fellow vapers.

It's weird the coil dry burns before the wick scorches.. Yeah I wouldn't recommend dry burning the coil by letting it dry.. Coil dry burn hurts your throat no matter the wick. So if every thing is chugging along great and you don't run it dry, you'll never have a dry hit.

All it takes is a burn test side by side with cotton.. Almost identical burn pattern...

@Kiwi
Yes excellent, the straight fine tencel is great in straight wick devices like tiafuns, kangers, ect.

Doesn't matter, I read that a long time ago. Hemp and ramie and many others are degummed with strong acids including sulfuric.

Note - H2SO4 - Sulfuric acid, Formula

http://www.fibrafp7.net/Portals/0/Chongwen_Yu_Day_1.pdf

Hemp
• immersed in acid(H2SO4): 2g/L ,50°C, 1h
• Boiling: H2O2 :10%,NaOH:6%,Na2CO3:4%,
Na2SiO3:2%, urea 2%,JFC1%,85°C,2h,
or: Boiling only with alkali:Sodium hydroxide:10%,
sodium tripolyphosphate: (Na5P3O10 )2%,urea2%, Sodium silicate2%,100°C,3h.

There are many other sources..

Cotton also has high levels of poisonous insecticides used and most times chemicals and acids can be used to bleach it. Even if it says organic your not guaranteed it is completely organic. It's a big money market and there's fraudulent claims in the whole organic community.

On top of that sulfuric acid washes off in water pretty easily and is washed off.. Just boil and rinse if your worried. Sulfuric acid has a strong affinity to water... I know hemp and cotton boil off more flavors/contaminates/ chemicals than rayon, you can tell flavor improvement with washing, with rayon you notice no difference. Boil and rinse if your worried about sulfuric acid.

The sulfuric acid causes a reaction that binds the cellulose. The rayon doesn't contain sulfuric acid specifically.

More to come later...

Realize degumming any fiber involves the use of caustic chemicals. This includes hemp and ramie. The reports of the smoke from rayon being slightly hazardous needs more research. Obviously you don't want it to smoke you just want it to transport your juice. It's recommended for advanced users for this reason. Those that understand a dry hit sign and can keep it wet.

My initial use of rayon was as feeder wicks for a cotton core external wraped coil. So there was no risk of the coil even touching the rayon. But it wicked like crazy and have the same
Super saturated coil and major nic buzz to boot.

Oh wait there were no sources.. Look at some of the comments in red at the bottom.

"this article is not to be taken seriously, nylon, polyester and even cotton is treated with chemicals. the claims in this article is unsubstantiated and should be ignored completely. please stop writing such misguiding articles. - noonon 2013-06-21

Late to the party.

Just stopping in to say thanks to Jeremy for discovering this material. Works great!

Holy smokes, 346 pages lol. I need a day off to catch up!

Or is there a possibility of a sticky that I can add to?

40ft CCr is cheaper if you order online.

Sally's is actually currently my last choice. Not that it's bad but it's like comparing 3 different nic's - they are all fine and dandy but one is a cleaner nic.

Rayon medical balls & pharmecuitical coil (from meletonin bottle) are my first and second choice; followed by Sally's CCr.

If your a real stickler; Both choices above are more neutral than Sally's - as a fiber taste test proves. Also Sally's unsealed bag in a beauty shop could add to a slight off taste in the beginning if it picked up any funny scents. (Rinsing or lightly boiling can remove that)

I put this out there not to dis CCr , its a great value. But to help incase someone trying it the first time has a problem.
