Hi all
Had my protanks for about a month and the original
coils are getting a little funky and picky about voltage. While I have a pack of 2.5 ohm heads, I also have a box of pre wound wicks and wires I got from
fast tech. I fugured these are pretty close to what the factory uses. I also wanted to stick to 1.8 ohms or there abouts because those work better if I need to use a basic battery while the twists are charging.
So I entered the mysterious, complex, and esoteric world of rebuilding. Don't have a video camera, and I'm not much to look at anyways, so get a cup of coffee and I'll go through the procedure. It takes some special tools, a nail clipper works great. And it takes weeks, but once you get the wicks from China, about 3 minutes.
1. remove silicone cap and chimney.
2. remove center contact and insulator.
3. remove "flavor" and wired wicks.
4. pick a wick out of the box, and get the leads pointing away from the wick leaving the 5 tight coils.
5. poke the leads through the body with the wick in the slots and install the insulator with one lead outside and one lead inside.
6. pull the leads a litle to remove any slack and bend both over. install the center contacl and trim the leads.
7. cut enough off one side of the wick for the flavor wick and drop on top.
8. install the chimney and silicone cap.
9. trim the wick on both sides to be flush with the base.
10 screw it back into the protank.
I don't recall what size wire and I didn't guage the wicks or perform elemental analysis to assess the wick purity or swing a dead cat around my head at midnight at a crossroads or anything. I'll probably do this again next month. I do have a decent multimeter and i was curious, they measure right around 1.8 ohms with the 5 wraps. The ones I bought were
fast tech sku 1475303. Works like new, If they don't last I'll post. I get a total cost per coil about $0.15

It's cheap and easy. Feel free to comment
