Steeping E-Liquid

Steeping my e-juice isn't usually an issue because they usually take 10-14 days to reach me and are vapeable straight off. But recently I got some faster arrivals than normal and from a vendor I haven't tried before. So I figured I might as well blog about steeping.

First up, steeping or no steeping, do shake the juice before you first use it, to give it a mix.

What is steeping? Well, it really just means leaving the juice to sit so the flavors and ingredients blend. Steeping is recommended in a cool dark place - or at least away from direct sunlight.
If your juice contains a little alcohol then take the top off and let it sit for a couple of days without the top on.
Steeping times will vary depending on the juice. Generally 1-2 weeks is good. Sometimes even a month can prove beneficial.

Why steep? Some e-liquid just isn't vapeable otherwise. Steeping tends to make flavors more subtle. I've previously ordered juice from Smokeless Image, Vape Dudes, and Mt. Baker Vapor and I've not really had any need to steep them. A few days ago I received an order from EC Blend and a number of the flavors had a strong perfumy smell and taste. To their credit, EC Blend provide a check sheet of flavors ordered and recommend steeping times.

Is there a quicker way of steeping? One way to speed up the steeping process is to put the bottles of juice into hot water and let them sit until the water cools to room temperature. I put mine into plastic bag, and then into a bowl of hot tap water. Don't use boiling water. Hot tap water is enough. I give mine a shake every 15 minutes. Some folk just wait about an hour to an hour and a half and then shake them. It's been said this equals a week of steeping time, but I don't know if that's true.
I do notice a change in juice color doing this, and flavor. But... if one flavor is still too strong I'll leave it steeping the usual way - just sitting in a cool place.

Steeping times vary from juice to juice. Some don't need it, some do. If it tastes and smells awful, try steeping it and then try it again. Right now I'm enjoying the apricot flavor from EC Blend after steeping for a few days and the hot water method. It tastes great.
