How I Make My coils

Ok, I'm not going to pretend to be a grand wizard coil wrapping master, I also know that this is a wrapping method pioneered by others. Having said that, I have great success using my variation. I mostly use bottom coil style RBAs (Kayfun 3.1, Killer 705 and Diver) with a cotton wick as well as RDAs with the exact same coil and wick set up. I have also successfully rebuilt vivi and Protank heads using the same method. I pre-wrap my coils and install them into my device before I put the wick in.
Pre-wrapping allows you to get your coils tight and even before it's installed as well as wrap a consistent diameter coil.
When I first started out I would have a lot of variation between builds, even with coils that had the same resistance. Some would hit great and others would suck. I started wrapping this way in order to remove some of the variables inherent to wrapping directly on the wick. Also wrapping your coil loops so that they touch speeds up the coils warm up time, saving a bit on the batterys.

A note of caution on wire gauges. Mini and micro coils wrapped with too small of a gauge have a tendency to heat very quick and can cause a burnt taste. If too large of a gauge is used you may have issues with wrapping a coil that will work with VV/VW devices, the resistance will be too low.
I use 30 gauge for everything except vivis and protanks in which I use 32g because of the limited space for the coil.
I exclusively use cotton for my wicks, I vape dark tobacco juices and have to do a dry burn every other tank or so. It's too easy to just slide in a new wick. I have successfully used Ekowool, XS16 and regular silica in these coils, but I prefer to use cotton.
