Wow, a Free Blog!

As I was perusing the forums and what not being a new user, I noticed the "Blogs" menu and thought, "Neat, they got some bloggers I can read." I quickly discovered that I too, little old me, can create my very own blog!

Just a quick introduction. My name is Mac (hence the "MacTX"). Until very recently, my career has been in law enforcement as a police officer. However, events of the past year have led me to another path. In May 2009, I was responding to a residential burglary in progress and lost control of my unit. Flip-roll-bounce-flip-up-down-flip, and that was that. I don't remember any of it. I was lifeflighted and CPR was necessary in the chopper because I decided to check out a couple of times. In the end, I suffered a broken neck in two places, broken clavicle and blasted rotator cuff, all ribs broken, three ruptured spinal disks, and a few other things. It has been a long road back to recovery, but full time law enforcement is going to have be a thing of the past.

Well, after I regained consciousness in the ICU unit of the hospital three days after the accident (I was kept in a coma due to severe brain swelling), a friend of mine brought me something. See, I'm a VERY heavy smoker - 2 1/2 packs a day, Marlboro Red. Apparently someone told the medical staff because they put a nic patch on me. Well, my friend brought me something I'd never heard of - an "e-cigarette". Interesting, I thought, but probably some silly gadget. I took a couple of drags and WHOA MOMMA!!!!

After getting out of the hospital, I researched them for quite a while. I recently purchased the Magma from Volcano as well as a NicStick (a 510 unit - formerly njoy) as a backup and a learning tool as well. I'm hooked, and analogs will soon be history. I've only used carts thus far, and I just can't get a strong enough strength from them to keep me from the analogs - I've used up to 18mg. I'm about to get into liquids with blue foam to make my own carts with a 36mg mix and that should do it. I do have a drip tip, but dripping is not really very mobile. I'll do it at home and wherever I can, but carts will be very important. A good TH is VERY important as well, so that's what I'm going for along with a nic strength that will do it.

So there you have - who I am and how I was introduced to ecigs. There is a program in Texas for peace officers injured in the line of duty and unable to return to full duty as a result - free college. All tuition and fees are waived. I already have 120 hours, so I'm going to finish out and get into teaching, which always was my second choice. I'll finish a Masters and teach history and English at a collegiate level. I'll start that in January. So until then, I've got plenty of time to get my hands into various facets of ecigs and liquids and foam and making carts and dripping and .... and .... well, all of it!

You're likely correct that you need a higher nic strength. You might be surprised how strong 36mg is, though. I smoked 25 yrs, 2+ pks/day of the harshest, cheapest, jail type cigs I could find. 36mg will definetly make you sit & think a few minutes before puffin' more! If 36 is too high, you might want to consider 24mg. Good luck!

Wow, talk about learning about ecigs the hard way! Couldn't you have just googled them? I mean really, breaking yourself into bits and pieces is a bit much for the cause. :)

What a great story.

See you in chat! :)
