Well, I'm going to make a tentative commitment to post once per day on this blog, content and circumstances permitting.
In today's episode, MisterMike revisits his DIY and makes a (thankfully) happy mistake.
First, I decided to revisit my DIY RY4 and see how a day's worth of steeping affected it. All I can say is wow. Even in a day, the flavour has changed considerably. It's a lot smoother, and gone are those weird notes I mentioned yesterday. Predominantly I get a sort of cross between brown sugar and caramel, with back notes of an earthy, malty tobacco. The tobacco seems drier (dryer?) than yesterday, too. Quite a bit better than yesterday. It's going to be difficult to leave this one alone to steep.
Second, my happy mistake. I'd run out of Key Lime in the carto I'd filled, and set it aside for a while while I took care of more pressing matters. I then went back, grabbed a carto and dropped about 15 more drops of the Key Lime into it before it saturated. Odd, I thought. It was pretty dry; it should've taken more than that. I blamed it on rumors of declining Boge quality, screwed it on to my Twist and took a vape.
I got a mouth full of menthol. Turns out I'd added my Key Lime to my menthol carto by mistake. "Waste not, want not" being one of my vaping mottoes, I decided to soldier on and see how things turned out. What I got was surprisingly good. Once the Key Lime had a chance to mingle, the resulting vape was very refreshing. Cool, tart, slightly sweet.
Since my cartos hold about 20 drops or so, I figure it was about a 3:1 ratio of Key Lime to Menthol. Don't know if I'll repeat that experiment in a straight-up e-liquid until I figure out how to dilute my menthol flavouring to give the same results.
Future DIY ideas:
- I can see the RY4 as it is right now doing well with a raspberry or possibly a peach.
- Haven't revisited the Dunhill yet, but it still seems like a good idea to mate it with blackberry.
- Peach-raspberry? Heck yes!
Well, that's it for today.
MisterMike signing off.
