10.01.2010. Friday. To Clean and Refill a Cartomizer.

Cleaning Cartomizers. I got this technique in the forums, but I'm putting it, here, for easy reference.

-Put the cartomizers in a plastic container.
-Fill said container with warm water, and swish them around for a couple minutes.
-Pour out the water, and repeat the previous step.
-Once you've drained the water for the second time, pour some vodka in the container, just covering the cartomizers.
-Swish the cartomizers around in the vodka for a couple minutes.
-I found that putting a lid on the container, and gently shaking it helped, as well. Gently, mind you.
-Drain the vodka. Do not drink it. Do not drink it. Do not drink it. Do not drink it.
-Pull out the cartomizers, one at a time, and dry them off with a paper towel.
-Blow through them to get out excess fluids. Do this over the sink.
-Dry out the container you washed them in, and put all the cartomizers back in.
-Put the container in front of a fan, and angle it such that air blows around the cartomizers.
-Test the cartomizers, every day by blowing through them onto a piece of toilet paper. If any moisture comes out, they are not dry.
-The drying process may take three days.

Refilling Cartomizers. I got these two techniques on Youtube.com.

Technique One. Cap filling.

Fill the silicon end-cap that goes on the mouthpiece of the cartomizer with e-juice, being careful not to use too much. Probably a third of the volume of the cap is okay. Different brands have different capacities. Push the cartomizer into the cap, thus force the juice inside. Take the cap off, wipe both the cap and the cartomizer dry.

Pros. fast method.
Cons. wears down the silicon cap, and is kind of messy, leaving juice behind in the cap and on the cartomizer.

Technique Two. Drip. This is my method of choice.

Set the cartomizer on a flat surface, so that the threads are facing up. Put one drop and one drop, only, on that little round "platform" with the hole in it. The surface tension of the e-juice will hold the drop in place. Wait for the drop to soak into the cartomizer. Then repeat. When you are done, wipe off the little "filling platform" with the corner of a piece of toilet paper. If done correctly, the threads never come in contact with the e-juice, and do not need cleaning.

To facilitate faster permeation, I will take the threaded end to my mouth and blow gently. This is not recommended for the stupid or clumsy. I cannot stress enough that you don't want to directly ingest e-juice. I have never had a problem with this technique. If you are not confident that you can do this safely, then don't.

Pros. clean and precise.
Cons. slow method.

I would be worried about taking to long to dry mildew or something. I use the genuine joye cartos you can pull them apart, then just pull out the filler and soak in isoprobyl alcahol sorry cnat spell.

I have not had a problem with mildew. Maybe that is because the second washing involves vodka? Yeah, it sure would be nice to take mine apart, but I'm not very handy with electronic devices, and my cartridges aren't designed to be disassembled. *sigh*
