The Pill Fob Cartomizer (Step by Step)

A step by step on making a carto from scratch out of a pill fob.


First drill 1/4" holes in both the top and bottom as such:

Now you can insert you choice of blank cart in the top one:


Next measure out your 36ga nichrome, solder the ends, and take 4 strands of silica fire wick and wrap your coil, I use a needle and medical clamps to hold it.


Now get an old carto connector and solder the ends to it, then push on a silicon tube and leave 1/8" clearance from the coil. In this picture I wrapped the coil with silica wick as a test to see if it keeps the batting from melting.


Insert new coil assembly into the bottom of the pill fob and press connector into place.


I used an old 801 atty to sheild the coil assy from the batting I was inserting:

Now I actually used silica fire wick material to see how this hols up, it is the loose strand kind, defeated the purpose of wraping the coil (I Know )


Trim, and tuck the remainder in:


Now remove the 801 atty and lightly position the surrounding material down and close to the coil assy:


Fill.... (This held 5ml of liquid!) and put the top on:


Connect the battery:


Vape your heart out!


Well I hope this inspires some folks to try somthing different. Will report back on the taste of this, and how the silica material holds up.

    Hi, I really like this!! I've been mulling making my own atty and searching a bit for the right size tubing for one versus using an old casing. I like this carto idea better. I like using cartomizers vs atomizers because carto's are more convenient when I go out, and when I am at home I just drip onto a bridgless atty with my homemade 5v PT. I have just one question...

    What is a pill fob and where do you get them??? I am thinking though, I might try to find something a bit thinner but about the same length. If I can get 2.5ml in I would be happy. That would last me 12 hours at least.

    EDITED: I just had an idea! I have some old ego batteries, and the empty tubes might make excellent cartomizer containers.. Hmmm..

    Well it has almost been 8 months since I made this an it is still working belive it or not
    I have had to rinse out the batting material and replace the coil, but it was quick and still works like a champ

    Hey, just wondering if you're having any problems with liquid discoloration or the like due to the metal pill fob. Also, I recently stopped by Harbor Freight and picked up the last 3 large fobs they had - they were out of small. Is there a way to make the large ones work for this?

    Nope no discoloration due to the aluminum, just from the normal heat and vaporization process around the the heating coil.
