I am just amazed at the power of the media to sensationalize. Only a few factual stories are done on the realities of E-cigs and even less is heard about the vaping community in general, but let one or two idiots have a battery explode in their face and the whole nation hears about it. Recently people that notice me vaping, most of whom have almost zero knowledge about E-Cigs, manage to come up with a comment like, "I hear those things can blow up in your face."
Fact: More people are struck by lightning and killed each year than are harmed by E-Cig batteries. So far no one has been killed by a battery. Tens of thousands of people die from cigarette related diseases every year. People that get struck by lightning are usually doing something stupid like golfing in a thunderstorm. Basically holding a metal rod in the middle of a clear field. These are the mental equivalents of those ...... that stacked multiple unprotected batteries and received either an acid bath or an inadvertent tooth extraction, both of which are logical outcomes.
Let's not be like the ...... and instead look at the statistics and the facts. All we can hope to do is educate those whose sole impression about E-Cigs is that they can blow up. Fight back against these sensationalist images! Our right to vape is largely dependent on who wins this battle. It is us against the 30 second sound bite in the national media. Let's hope we win.
