In mythology and religion, smoke is full of meaning. Its floating intangibility and unreal character have made it possible for imaginative person to see therein mystery and magic. Even for us smoke has a strong fascination. To the cigarette smoker, the clouds he puffs out seem to represent a part of himself. Just as most people like to watch their own breath on cold winter days, so they like to watch cigarette smoke, which similarly makes one's breath visible. The desire to make things is deep-rooted and smoke is manufactured by the smoker himself. Smoking also provides satisfaction because it is a playful whilst being a creative activity. The best thing is that the smoke you are breathing in with electronic cigarettes is harmless.

I've discovered over the course of quitting my reasons I keep it up. My addiction is not specifically to nicotine or ritual associations. My addiction is to watching the exhaled cloud. Makes it hard to replace with a related habit as there weren't any. Thankfully, there is now vaping. I've made some eliquids which produce almost no visible vapor on the exhale at all and find myself constantly annoyed and wanting an analog. With a proper non stealth mix I am completely contented.
