California SB 648

Here's a letter I penned to my state senator:

The Honorable Cathleen Galgiani
California State Capitol, Room 4082
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Senator Galgiani:

I am writing to ask you to oppose SB 648 concerning the banning of e-cigarettes in public areas that combines it to cigarette smoking laws.

There is no side stream of vapor from an electronic cigarette like that of a tobacco cigarette. The vapor dissipates quickly with no residual smell. There are no cigarette butts that will be thrown on the ground. There are no ashes from electronic cigarettes. It is environmentally safe. The batteries used by e-cigarettes can be recycled. By allowing e-cigarette use in public spaces, there is no residue left by the e-cigarette unlike tobacco cigarettes which litter the ground and poison the waterways. Most Californians recognize my vaping device and know of them. I've received positive response and encouragement when I tell them that I have successfully quit using tobacco products and use e-cigarettes exclusively. My non smoking friends allow me to use e-cigarettes in their homes and do not worry about the side effects of my vaping unlike cigarette smoke. I can vape anywhere without the worry of stinking up my house, car, and more importantly myself.

Surveys of thousands of users indicate that the majority of those who completely replace tobacco cigarettes with the electronic cigarettes reduce their health risks by 98-99%. In fact, all evidence to date shows that the low health risks associated with e-cigarettes is comparable to other smokeless nicotine products. I have tried many approved NRT products and have failed. E-cigarettes are the only product that has successfully kept me off of tobacco cigarettes.

Thank you for your time and your service to our great state. I urge you to vote no on SB648 to help encourage the use of e-cigarettes to help ex smokers like myself to reduce use of combustible tobacco products for a smoke free California! Sincerely,

xxx
