Thyroid's written reviews, pt.3 : Golden Mod 14500

Couple weeks ago, while I was wondering around at different forums I noticed intresting device for sale. This battery mod was made in Poland, and it looked very beautiful to me. I never thought that I could find brass mod in 14500 size, but there it was. I asked more details of it from the seller, and he kindly answered to all my questions. What I was also told, the modder goes by the name 'sator75' in polish vaping forum (e-papierosy-forum.pl). I was also curious about how many of these have been made, and apparently there are many of these devices in Poland, but only a few outside the country. But, let's see the details about the device itself:

Details:
So, all the metal parts in Golden Mod are made from brass. It has two battery tubes, that you need to tighten together to your battery - upper battery tube is 16mm in diameter, and lower 18mm. This kind of structure has some benefits comparing to to mods with just a one tube. First of all, there no need for hotsprings, and you have direct contacts between your battery and atomizer. Secondly, there are no need for spring that prevents the battery movement like in GP Piccolo and some other mods, and you don't have to adjust the negative connection screw at all. Third, this is designed only for 14500 batteries, so the tubes are threaded together all the way nice and tightly, and this of course serves good conductivity. So - I guess this is "semi-telescopic" mod. The positive connection screw is adjustable to your atomizer just with a simple screwdriver, and it's insulated with threaded delrin part. It stays in it's position very well, and doesn't move around under your atomizer when you are tightening it into 510-connection.

On the upper tube, there are three vent holes lined. Maybe less would be needed for the venting, but on the other hand they also look quite nice and kind of support this whole design and looks on this mod. Something to catch the eye! On the other side of them, little more above, is just one hole. That hole is for the airflow, since it goes all the way to the inside of the 510-connector. You can tighten your atomizers that needs good bottom airflow - like Spheroid for example - tightly in your mod, and they always work very well, and just like they should. I think this is clever, and good looking solution on this mod.

Switch has a locking ring, and the button movement is done simply with a spring. Switch feels good. It feels smooth, and the same time firm when you are using it. You can put your device on the table without locking ring on, and mod stands steady and doesn't fire by itself. In overall, build quality, threads and everything is up to par on this mod. No complaints.

Conclusion:
I have very little negative to say about this mod. Golden Mod is simple and effective, and very pleasant to use. It fires really well and always delivers. Brass is not of course as though material as stainless steel, so you have to keep good care of this mod. This is not something, that you want to drop on to concrete floor from your pocket, since brass gets bruised quite easily. Brass also needs a little bit more work than stainless steel, if you want to keep it always shiny and polished. Although I have noticed, that usually just a dry toilet paper does the trick and the Cape Cod is not needed so often.

It's understandable, that brass may not be for everyone's taste as a building material, for the whole battery mod. What comes to the design and the looks; I guess this could look little bit more 'cigarette stylish' with one battery tube. Still, I like how this feels in hand when I'm using this. Thicker battery tube is good for the grip and this feels very natural in hand. As an conclusion - and adding pros and cons together - I would say that so far this is the best 14500 mechanical mod, that I have used. Sadly there are no retailers for this (yet?), but you can always try your luck with putting wanted ads on different forum classifieds.

Pros and cons:
+ No springs between your battery and atomizer.
+ No movement between battery tubes.
+ Airflow working effective to your atomizer.
+ Switch feels very good and precise.
+ Great conductivity.
- Brass is not really care free material.
