Hi Everyone . . .

Just thought I would let you know and commemorate that today June 28th is the actual anniversary of the "Stonewall Rebellion/Riots" of 1969 . . .

A day to "Me" that really did changed everything, especially for "Me," the "Gay Community" as a whole and really was the main event that started the Modern Gay Movement of Today. . .

Now while many people have differing accounts of what happen, why, and who really did start the uprising - especially given their own personal perspectives - there is one article I found out on the Internet that comes very close to how I remember things in general and without all the "hype" and "revisionist" accounting to history to make it more acceptable or even palatable to some and to those who wish to make it something it was not - nor more than what it was, especially given the Time Period and Homophobic Attitudes, Prejudice, and Bigotry of Society . . . For "Me" - it was and always will be - A Rebellion By The People Who Had Enough . . .

You can find the article here: Stonewall: Freedom Overdue

Okay now this is just going to be so wrong - since I hope I am not sounding like an old fogy - however it probably will and does sound like that . . . But even if it does - I still sometimes find it amazing how people see things and especially that the Younger "Gay" Generation does not really know their History and what has happened before them to get the rights they have today - even those rights being as limited as they are - there are many more now then I had 50 + years ago or just as important not to forget - "My" Predecessors . . .

More importantly, there are so many people, including many within the "Gay Community" that do not even know why what happened at Stonewall happened the way it did - which all stemmed from the perspectives and attitudes of the main stream culture and society at large about Homosexuals . . . Homosexual Men were seen as only wanting to be and acting like Women and Homosexual Women were seen as wanting to be and acting like Men . . . What to "Me" even made it worse at the time - there were a lot of Homosexual people who actually did take on those opposite "gender' roles, because that's is what "We" were taught and thought was the only way for "Us" to be and live as who "We" felt we were . . . Homosexual Men = Wanting to dress as a Female, Were Feminine, Weak, Girlie, Limp Wrists, Swishy, Talked with a Lisp or High voice, Fought like a girl or not at all . . . Homosexual Women = Dress like a Man, Were Butch or considered a Dyke, Short Hair, Tough, Talked Like a Man - Swearing all the time or with a Deep Voice, Fought like a Man . . . Matter of fact, that is even how the police were able to arrest so many people then, because they were "impersonating" another gender - it was against the LAW to entice others by pretending to be something you're not - Anyone wearing the clothing of person of another gender were "Stripped" when confronted and if they did not have a a piece of attire of their specific gender on - they were arrested immediately as an "Impersonator" . . . Besides the fact that it was against the law for same "gender" to be sexually involved . . . Police decoys were sent into a BAR to entice someone to touch them inappropriately or even suggest to them that they shpuld go somewhere together for a sexual encounter - they would be not only arrested, but even worse, beaten to a pulp at the Police Station/Jail and nothing could be done about it because they were "F. A. G. G. O. T. S." & " Q. U. E. E. R. S." . . . Notwithstanding everything else you hopefully read in the article, the "Stonewall Rebellion/Riots" involved many different people that were in Greenwich Village that night and weekend . . . The Whole Community, including but not limited to Bar Patrons, Homosexual Men & Women, Homosexual "Street Youth" and those who actually lived in Greenwich Village too - to only name a few . . .

The Good Thing Was "Times Were Changing" . . . AND - People Were Changing too . . . "We" were already rebelling against the society's and cultural norms - the Civil Rights Movement, The Hippie Generation and the demonstrations against the Vietnam War, and Women's Rights - all were happening too during this time period . . . Which is also what lead to the Marches for "Gay Rights" - they were not a Celebration of "GAY PRIDE" as they are today - the first March was political in nature and to liberate "Us' from "We" were either forced or that where we were allowed - to socialize in . . . Which back then one of the places was - Greenwich Village . . .

The "Pride" March in 1970 was to show "OUR" Faces and force society to see "Who We Really Were" - they were taking us "OUT of the CLOSET" so to say and "Out Of the Gay Ghetto" . . and the "Gay PRIDE" March was actually called The "Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day Rally" . . . . "We" actually Marched Out of the Greenwich Village up to Central Park to hear Speakers and Music (Hey - Some of US were Hippies too - What is a political demonstration without Music and Fun in the Park ) . . . It was only in the last 20 or so years that the march changed to the other direction for the "Gay Pride" Festivals that are now held in NYC and those that are held around the World . . .

Hey - I could go on, however I think that is enough for now . . . More Importantly, it leaves "YOU" with something more to think about and hopefully wanting to learn more besides the current events that have happened more recently as "Important Moments In Gay History" Or reading more recent "Quotes from Famous Gay People" . . .

SO - Get out there - Do some more research - Read

HEY - You Never Know What You Will Find, Learn, or "WHO" You Will Meet . . . Just a thought

BTW: If you also want to look at some of the older images of what happened during that time that I was able to "pull-up" via Google search - here is a link for YOU (Oh AND - if you look real close you may even see a photo somewhere with "Me" in it too . . . Although, I do doubt very much you will be able to . . . ) : https://www.google.com/search?q=ston...w=1016&bih=590
