    Default Colorado Senator Michael Bennet

I wrote to him several weeks ago about vaporizers using a modified version of one of the long and well written letters that others have posted. Today I got this reply from him -

    Dear Robert:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, S. 982. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

As you may know, I am an original cosponsor of S. 982 and am personally invested in ensuring this important bill becomes law. This bill would allow for the regulation of tobacco products by the Secretary of Health and Human Services through the Food and Drug Administration. This Act would direct the Secretary to approve all labels and restrict the sale, distribution, advertising and promotion of tobacco products. The bill would also require pre-market approval of all new tobacco products in addition to several other measures that will protect public health.

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 people and costing more than $96 billion in health care cost annually. Twenty-three percent of all high school students smoke, with more than 1,000 children becoming new smokers daily.

Please rest assured that I will do everything in my power to make sure S. 982 becomes law.

Again, thank you for contacting me.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Bennet
    United States Senator

looks like we've got another sen who can't read, or maybe the intern put the letter in wrong place. LOL It suspiciously also look like... a copy-paste job.

I'm afraid I'd be phoning and giving them an earful. And be sure to thank his office for handing out a death sentence to 95% of the smokers, since it will take away safer alternatives.

I sent him a reply to say how amazed I was at his ability to miss the point, assured him that I would be happy to post his totally irrelevant form letter on as many boards as possible, and thanked him for trying to force me back to smoking a pack of Marlboro's every day.

He's an appointed Senator that's never served in an elected position before.

Dangit, I should have copied my response. Just pretend it was witty and scathing

Do you have a link to the original letter you sent to this guy? I'd like to post it on another board. With your permission, of course.

I'd say, get a video camera and catch these guys some place, ask them: "Would you be in favour of an alternative for smokers if it was proved to be far less dangerous in order to save the lives of existing smokers?"

just to correct myself - I guess 95% is a bit harsh. It came from the statistic that quit smoking products are only successful 5% of the time, thus leaving 95% still using. BUT, not all of that 95% come down with a deadly smoking-related disease. Still, though...
