Default I got an email back from Steve Levy, Suffolk County!

Check this out! This is in response to my email campaign letter!

Dear Constituent:

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office regarding proposed legislation to ban the use of electronic cigarettes in Suffolk County. The concerns of all constituents are of the utmost importance to me. It may interest you to know that the proposed ban that would prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in public buildings has been modified and is now directed toward the sale and use of electronic cigarettes to and by minors. Given this significant change in the proposal, I am looking at the bill in a more favorable light. However, you may rest assured I will bear your thoughts in mind if and when this legislation should reach my desk.

I hope this information helps clarify my position on this issue. Please feel free to contact my office in the future if I may be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Steve Levy
County Executive

yep, I got it too. I'd like to see what the new proposal actually says.

I got the same reply. If they only banned them from sale and use by minors that would be great. Here's hoping we get a break somewhere.

Yep got the same one...

Promising if it changed to sales and use to and by minors.
Had to reread it a couple times to catch that.

I guess that if the minor in question is a current tobacco smoker who wants to quit, his or her parents will need to purchase the e-cigarette for the minor. I guess that works.

Steve Levy is a decent guy. I've met him about a dozen times (also voted for him) and he's pretty analytical in his decision making. Next time I see him I will certainly make every effort to educate him about the benefits of vaping.

Hmmm...I didn't read it that way. I read "if and when it actually gets to me" not if they change it to only cover sales to minors.
