Fyi from health canada
Somewhat bad news from health Canada. I sent them an email asking questions seems like an eon ago, and they finally sent back. They stated that in order for e cigs to be approved a manufacturer must submit substantial scientific evidence of safety. They must send this to "Therepeutics products directorate" or TPD for short. They stated that to date they are aware of no one doing this. To me it seems that we must ban together and flood these Chinese companies with requests to do this. They should realize in the long run it is in their best interest to do this if they wish to sell worldwide. Lord knows Canada is'nt the only country doing or planning these so called bans. What do you think. we can to do something besides talk cant we?
-
imo, Canada is a little fish compared to the US sales
if the makers are going to produce the studies, they will do it in the US
we will likely fall in line with what they do, like most other things
-
We shouldn't just focus on the Chinese companies. I would think that Health Canada might have an easier time dealing with companies based in the US

Unfortunatly your probrably right, hopefully someone submits something soon. It sucks feeling powerless though.

"Now back to the e-cig ban by Health Canada. When I first started looking into e-cigs about a month ago i did alot of research. Found some extensive research done in NewZealand that was very interesting and informative and also came across the Heath Canada thing. So I wondered what Heath Canada had found that the scientists in NZ hadn't. Couldn't find any Health Canada finds online so I decided to call them. Spoke to several people and finally found out that Health Canada has done zero research on e-cigs and has no intention of looking into them until someone spends the money to apply to them to import/sell them legally in Canada. What the hell is Health Canada there for? Why are they not looking into this? and why would the ban them if they know nothing about them? These are the questions I want answered so I ask the same thing of my local MP. I am waiting fr a response and suggest everyone here do the same."

Hey thanks for reposting that Nojoyet.
Like I said in the quoted post. Why doesn't Health Canada do it's own research? I mean come on what are they there for? I suggest you all do like I did and contact your local MP and urge them to look into it thats what we elect them for.

Cheech,
Both the ingredients in e-juice, PG and nicotine (in low concentrations) are both safe. Lots of research has been done on both.
When something is vaporize, its doesn't undergo a chemical reaction changing its properties, it just changes state, from liquid to gas.
It would be very safe to assume, that 2 safe ingredients are safe when mixed (as they don't react) and when vaporized. Its as simple as that, and NO ONE has any research that contradicts that statement.
Worst case, we are all wrong. But what we were doing before with analogs was PROVEN to be very unsafe.
