The stuff is like blue foam like sponge, only it has tiny holes, not the big holes. The stuff is great, just practice with how much fluid, etc

Well, when I went to Petco to find some, there were about 732 different sizes.
At least I assume they were different sizes, but I never really looked at all of them to see what the difference was. This thread said to get the size U ones, so I did. But there was also sizes A, B, E, Z, G, F, X, R, S, and LMNOP. So I'm guessing that many of them may have larger or smaller sponge holes, and may work better or worse.
For all I know, we are all using the size U simply because that is what the first person came across, and it might be the worst size we could be using.
Someone needs to buy all of them and experiment!!

But of course, then it will still depend on what juice you are using.
So yeah, there you go.

I don't know what I ended up with but the stuff I got at Petsmart is manufactured by fluval and it's almost like the consistency of a loofa. It doesn't seem to wick very well and it's leaking out the atty holes. I keep my 510 (manual) in an empty cigar tube (works very well btw) and I usually see liquid around where the atty holes are in the tube, and the outside is usually wet. Thinking about switching back to poly with straw mod, working very well with that so far although still not sucking carts dry... Did I get the wrong stuff?

If you guys with the 510 are filling your cart and cutting along the top, the stuff will still make contact with the atty bridge. The atty bridge, on my 510, drops down into the cart so wouldnt the filler have to be below that to "not make contact" with the atty?
I wanna do this, but I dont wanna wind up causing problems or burning the stuff.

If the cart filling and the atty bridge don't make contact, how is the liquid going to wick from the cart to the atty? They need to be in contact in order to work.

It's supposed to make contact with the atomizer's metal mesh wick, of course. In theory, that part's not supposed to heat up—it's just supposed to transport the fluid from the cartridge to the heating coil. Of course, in practice, it can get pretty freakin' hot (people have actually melted cartridges a bit), which I personally have always felt was one of the bigger design flaws of the 510.

I am just trying to clarify because someone in this thread had said that the atty wont burn the foam because lack of contact, but if there is contact between the two and the foam does burn, it can release some severely toxic chemicals that can potentially harm you.
I wanted to cover all the bases before I go and buy the stuff...

A couple people have asked for input from ppl who used this mod & the ptb. I tried 2 different methods of the ptb on my Janty Stick with the classic atomizer (a modified 801) & the results sucked. I did the roll fold & trim method, it didn't wick well and leaked. The double folded, rolled, frayed mod worked a bit better but the directions are for a much smaller cart. One bag wasn't enough material & 2 was too much. I was resigned to spending a while figuring out exactly the right amount when I stumbled across this thread. I didn't do anything special with it. I just cut the foam to the width of my cart & about 1/8 in shorter (so I can see when I'm overfilling) & shoved it in. It's been wicking great. The only problem I've had was with topping off & I think that windmill method has solved that problem. If not, it's not that difficult to pull the whole plug out & drip into the cart.

Sorry, don't get it..... Do you put a piece of the Eheim filter in first towards the mouth end and then put a piece of regular Poly Fil on top of it towards the atomizer end......
Does it act like a reservoir, constantly filling the poly fil to make the cartridge last longer...... Is that right sir......

I too have just bought the fluval foam from petco. It works fantastic but I am concerned on whether it is safe or not. I can't find anywhere what this stuff is made of and don't want to be vaping toxic chemicals.
