I got some blue foam this weekend and gave it a whirl on my 801. The first cart vaped and wicked pretty well. The two after that had massive leaking and bad wicking. I also put it in my 510 and it worked pretty well. Seems a bit better thasn the PTB for the 510.

I'll try the blue foam / polyfill cap method today and see how it goes.

Tulle works well if you don't mind standing in line with the ladies at the fabric store

Has anyone tried titanium mesh? $8 is a small price to pay for a cart filler that works well and lasts forever. Where can I find food grade titanium mesh? I want to try this. Any new info? Thanks

MOQ kicks your ass: Sources I found won't sell less than 1 square foot of 30-count for about $600, you'd need about 2 square inches for an 801 cartridge (less for the smaller models). Theory says it should be ideal, and should work at least as well as PTC, but I can't quite bring myself to spend $600 to find out.

Titanium wool of the same dimensions as fiberglass wicking should be even better (no crossthreads to interrupt the capillary flow), but I can't find a supplier of that will sell it by less than the pound/kilo (thousands of dollars). Fiberglass/Aramid wicking works wonderfully, except the fibers are so fine they go right into the protective mesh to the element and get vaporized themselves (vaporized fiberglass = Silicosis aka "Miner's Lung", vaporized aramid = mesothelioma, like asbestos). Maybe if I could find a company that already used it and talk someone into smuggling me a tuft to experiment with. But I can't even figure out what the stuff is used *for*, except for high-durability firearm silencers and as a substitute for fiberglass in armor-grade composites.

Titanium mesh cut at a 45 degree angle to the weave would probably be a good compromise. But still, $600 minimum order (and less efficient per-cartridge cost, because you'd have more wastage).

Yes but does it wick well? Nothing seems to wick well enough or fast enough (without leaking).
No e-beer yet, so I'll just keep drinking :)

I did some research and titanium has high resistance, so wouldn't that mean it would heat up a lot? It seems gold would be a good material since it has low resistance and doesn't corrode, does that make sense? This is all based off things I read online, I don't know much about the subject.

Sources of non toxic metal screen:

Stainless steel window screen is used in food processing equipment.

Fine Gold plated screen is used in "permanent" drip coffee maker filters. (will not affect taste).
